Official Review: The Lubyanka Strategy by Bob Bonelli

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Lubyanka Strategy" by Bob Bonelli.]

The Lubyanka Strategy, written by Bob Bonelli, is a crime, mystery work of fiction. This novel is full of crime, murder, and suspense, right to the very end.

The story opens up with two old-time friends, Oleg and Tom. Both Oleg and Tom have previously worked for their respective country's intelligence agencies. Tom has been captured and Oleg goes to save him. Here, Oleg and Tom get shot and die, but not before they let each other know that the key is safe.

As we fast forward, we learn that Andrei, son of Viktor, was the one who ordered the killings. Andrei is the head of the company Enerprov. Enerprov is the largest privately held oil and natural gas producer in the Russian Federation. Before Viktor's death, he shared his plan that he and an American partner came up with back in 1978. Now that Viktor has died, it is up to Andrei to carry out his end of the plan. In the meantime, the CIA has sent a man, Michael, to Russia to look into the deaths of Tom and Oleg. Michael is assigned a partner from the Russian FSB. Her name is Anya, and not only is she FSB, but she is the daughter of the late Oleg. it is up to the two of them to find out who shot Tom and Oleg, what the key is, who the American partner is, and how to stop the plan from actually happening. With twists and turns, and a couple of secrets, will Michael and Anya be able to stop it?

Bob Bonelli is an excellent writer and storyteller. He includes so many details that you actually feel like you are in the story. For that reason, I give it 4 out of 4 stars. Bonelli sets up a great background and continues that great writing throughout the whole story.

The Lubyanka Strategy is an excellent read if you like crime and mysteries. Stuart Woods is one of my favorite crime writers, and I would rank this book up there with him. I just hope this is not the only time we meet Michael and Anya.
