Review of The Drug Tampering Trial
The Drug Tampering Trial is Tom Breen's third book about the New York attorney Brian Bradford and the vicious CEO of ZeiiMed Healthcare Insurance Company, John Edison. The first chapters of this book begin with Brian Bradford and John Edison as they engage in a bloody confrontation inside Edison's apartment, located at 60 East 84th Street, during which Brian kills two ZeiiMed security guards and seriously injures John Edison. When the police arrived, Brian was arrested and charged with multiple felonies. After that, he was incarcerated at the Rikers Island Correctional Facility while John Edison was being treated at the Trauma Center at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Miraculously, Brian got away with the crimes he committed and swore to never get himself involved in any dealings with the ZeiiMed company until he got a call four years later from a friend in Rome named Susanna Nudbelle, an attorney for the defendant, John Edison, in the HID (Hip Implant Device) trial against Brian Bradford. Susanna and Brian became friends after Brian and his assistant, Mary Douglas, helped Susanna escape John Edison's wrath for losing the case against Brian. The question lies here: What information does Susanna have to share with Brian that makes him fly to Rome? Would Brian break his oath and go on another pursuit after the ZeiiMed company once again? Find out more when you grab a copy of Tom Breen's novel, The Drug Tampering Trial.
I like how thoroughly the author portrayed the locations, people, and events in this novel. His descriptions helped me visualize the events and settings as they happened. I also respect the author's skill in using diverse characters in this book; he introduced them at the appropriate points in the story. For example, when Susanna introduced Dana Dafiri to Brian in Rome, Dana Dafiri provided Brian and his association with the necessary information about opium production and the smuggling of fake PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) pills into the United States from Iran. Another point I admired about this novel was the exhibition of certain attributes in my favorite character, Mary Douglas. Although she was on Brian's side and wanted to put the CEO of ZeiiMed Company behind bars by all means possible, she never failed to provide Brian with advice about his relationship with Meadhbh and his work affairs.
The point I dislike about this novel is that I wasn't able to feel any emotion from the author's writing at the end of the novel; the novel was not able to elicit emotional responses about Brian Bradford and Meadhbh O'Shea's relationship despite the author's effort to make that happen. I admit the author cannot engage the reader's emotions while reading this novel. Another point I dislike is the digression employed by the author in this novel. I believe the discussions about politics between Brad Bradford and Mary Douglas veered off-topic in this novel and also made the novel tedious to read. I also dislike Brian's attributes; the fact that he tends to share his thoughts and intentions with every character he meets, including the newspaper reporter Diane Edwards, makes him amateurish and unwise.
I would give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars because of the points listed above that I disliked about this book, and I also would state that this novel, The Drug Tampering Trial by Tom Breen, is professionally edited as I was able to spot a few grammatical errors when reading this novel.
The themes employed in this novel are politics, crime, actions, love, and romance, and I would recommend this novel to readers who enjoy books with this theme. I would also recommend this book to older readers because of the usage of profane words and the gruesome description of brutal killing scenes.
