Real-Life Crime's Impact on Crime Fiction Genre

Society is getting crazier and crazier. We've got the war in Ukraine, and a little over two years ago we had covid which lead to an increase in looting and such related violent crime. Oddly enough, I've been wondering what new piece of literature would spring from this ashes (suggestions?)

Seriously though, these real-life crimes have influenced crime fiction throughout history. I mean, just think about it. Jack the Ripper's murders in the late 19th century set a whole new standard for true-crime genre and inspired writers to get more in-depth with forensic techniques and criminal psychology in their works. It's crazy to think about how something so terrible could have such a big impact on literature.

But it's not just the past, real-life crimes continue to shape the genre today. I mean, just look at some of the high-profile crimes that have happened in the 21st century like the 9/11 terrorist attacks, school shootings, and crypto frauds. These events have sparked renewed interest in the genre and pushed writers to explore the psychological and societal aspect of crime in their works. It's like crime fiction has become more reflective of the world we live in, more realistic.

I love true crime and mystery and there are so many crimes and serial killers that books and movies have been written about. There are books and movies that have been written about the Amityville murders and the Vallisca axe murders for example. The Vallisca axe murders are one of my favourite ones to read about because they were unsolved despite there being several suspects, so there are so many different theories surrounding it.
