Review of Fortune Cats Intercession
Fortune Cats Intercession is the fourth part of Dave Hutchinson's remarkable series about Se Ri's journey. This extraordinary sci-fi book is literally out of this world. Se Ri, a former supermodel and golf women's champion, had inherited some good fortunes from her late superior. She is also responsible for releasing a long-time alien craft project that will change the world. With the telepathic abilities to communicate with the unique alien craft, Se Ri decides to use it all to achieve different purposes. First, she wants to give the USA access to allow her to stay there peacefully. Secondly, she wants to give China access so they can send food relief to her people. Finally, she intends to give the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) access in hopes that they make a woman a member of the Politburo Standing Committee. How will it all play out?
We follow Se Ri, the book's narrator, as she goes through her trip, thoughts, and life. The author projects Se Ri as unafraid and brave. This projection is because she has amassed a great deal of personal power and has undergone extensive mental and physical preparation to defend herself against threats. Today, women with similar qualities and willingness to fight for women's empowerment are rare. Her fervent feminism is on full display throughout the story. Readers will be amazed at how she has a significant advantage of connecting directly with top religious leaders, even though she is an ordinary churchgoer. That is the kind of power she has.
The author gives insights into how political authorities dominate and affect technology around the globe and how the church is also a part of the world's decision-making bodies. Regardless of the role played by some religious characters in the narrative, the author ensures that the story does not toe a religious line. I applaud the author because it takes discipline to achieve this feat.
There was something about this book that didn't sit well with me. I found the plethora of scientific details in this narrative daunting. Readers could be so caught up in the book's abundance of scientific detail, especially concerning space-based physics, that they lose sight of other essential aspects. Even though the book is fictional, it might take a lot of work to keep up with the scientific jargon.
Overall, the story was written well. It would give readers unique exposure to science, politics, and international powers. The editing was professionally done. However, due to the aspect of this book that didn't sit well with me, I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars.
