Review of All for Nothing
As I pondered the message passed on by this intriguing novel, all I could come up with was vanity upon vanity. All for Nothing by Joe Mannherz is a suspenseful and action-packed novel born of friction. It illustrates the lifeline of a private investigator named Jake as it relates to the conspiracy, manipulation, and quest for a rare and valuable diamond named Nothing, which took the life of his brother Mark, and an attempt on the love of his life, Nina.
Jake and Mark were the only sons of their parents. They grew up in the northeast corner of Baltimore City with their parents and two sisters. Mark began his vocation in a monastery, studying to be a Franciscan priest. However, he later switched to being the owner of a recording company. In his quest to fulfill his dreams, he got into debt with an evil man, who persuaded him to make a purchase that negatively impacted his life. Would he be able to make amends?
The author kept readers in a realm of suspense and anticipation, which makes it difficult for the reader to lose focus even for a second. I liked that he also made the scenes easily visualized and realistic, as though it were a movie. Jake was my favorite character. This was because he had a way of finding solutions to problems that proved unsolvable and acting on his instincts.
There are lots of things I enjoyed about this book. Firstly, I must confess that the artistic sketches and drawings were unique. They complimented the storyline, giving a visual perspective and increasing my understanding. The importance of the drawings cannot be overemphasized, as they give hints about the content of each chapter. I was also impressed by the bravery with which Doris, Jake's secretary, and her boss pulled off being more intelligent than the two hoodlums. It shows that they share an adequate level of understanding and intimacy. In addition, the plot was connected and had a recall effect in the latter part of the story.
I found no errors in this book, which shows it was excellently edited. Due to the above appraisals and the fact that I found nothing displeasing about this book, I am giving it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
I recommend this book to readers thrilled with suspense and lovers of action-packed series because their urge for action and suspense will be sufficiently satisfied.
