Whiskey Rebellion : an Addison Holmes Mystery

This book is a mystery set around the quirky Addison Holmes, history Teacher at James Madison High School in Whiskey Bayou, Georgia. After having her fiance leave her at the altar, she gets notice that her building is to be condemned and decides stripping will help earn extra cash...but disaster always follows in the footsteps of Addison Holmes as does the body count.

ThIs sounded like a unique and quirky story and so I was interested. It was a mixture of mystery and murder with maybe a hint of romance too. I like that combination.

From the very beginning of the book we are introduced to Addison Holmes a woman not prone to making good decisions at a strip joint where she gives stripping an unsucessful try and trips on a murder victim on her way out, who is none other than the school principle at the school where she teaches. Then we are briefly introduced to detective Nick Dempsey. At first I found Addison's personality and quirks well not lovable but you know just part of who she was but then she got a little annoying.

Nick Dempsey shows character from the very beginning where" I caught a glimpse of his bemused expression before he masked it." He laughs at Addisdon, is cynical at times and creates sexual tension but overall his character was the one I was overall glad for because it was a relief from all the melodrama surrounding Addsion.

I was tempted to stop half way through because it was dragging a little and nothing seemed to be developing either in character development or plot except the addition of bodies. But I am glad that i continued because it was a novel where though i had hints I never expected the exact ending and that is what I like in a novel.

The book is presented as a Romantic Mystery/ Comedy and I would say that it was a light read, with some wit I didn't find funny but i'm hard to please, and the romance aspect is a bit unfulfilling if you are looking for a happily ever after but it was realistic. If you are looking for a mystery with light relief and not heavy intrigue then I would highly recommend this book.

Overall I really enjoyed reading Whiskey Rebellion and I might even be tempted to read the next book in the Addison Holmes Mysteries just to see what happens the next time Addison is involved in murder.

I have rated it as as 2.5 out of four stars
