Official Review: Minerva Day by Christie Keele

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Minerva Day" by Christie Keele.]

Minerva Day is a fictional, mystery novel written by Christie Keele. The story tells of heart break, anger, and love through a family that is brought together and then torn apart over the loss of an adopted boy.

Minerva Day is about a mentally ill, older woman whose husband dies suspiciously, and her daughter accuses her of his death and then fights with her mother every time they are together. Minerva is a sick woman who believes she can get away without her medicines and believes that everybody is out to get her and she is never wrong. When Piper and her husband George decide to adopt their foster child, Minerva tries to intervene and prevent the adoption, when she fails she puts it aside and welcomes Fellow with open arms.

One Christmas, Minerva decides to take her grandson to the Christmas Carnival with her when she comes down with one of her spells. That's the day that her family really began to fall apart. Fellow turns up missing and Piper accuses her mother of murdering her son. Walter, Minerva's new friend, helps her through this hard time as she deals with the loss of her grandson and the onslaught of accusations that come from everybody else around her. When the killer is finally caught, Piper, who took the loss the hardest, slides further into hatred for her mother and goes after her mother for the death of her father.

I really enjoyed reading this story. There was so much detail put into the lives of the family members and their problems. The book was full of emotion and I found myself tearing up at times while reading. As the story wore on I found that I had a hard time putting the book down, I had to know who the killer was and what was going to happen next.

Although I enjoyed the book, there was very few things that I didn't really like. As I said there was a lot of detail that went into the beginning of the story that I felt it was very slow starting out and in the beginning I had a hard time reading it. Also, while it didn't strike me as annoying, there were a few grammatical errors strewn throughout the story. One that annoyed me in particular was once in the story there was a name change to one of the other characters that wasn't there at that particular time.

I rate this novel a 4 out of 4 stars because even with what I didn't like, I still thoroughly enjoyed the story. It was full of suspense and emotion and I really enjoy that in a book. I really believe everybody that picks this book up will enjoy reading it and the twist at the end. I would definitely read it again.
