Review of Mardi Gras Ripper
The lead character and police officer, Jason Marks, is obsessed with the serial killer 'Jack the Ripper'. Because of this obsession, his coworkers call him 'Rip'. After an incident with his coworker in which he saved his life, out of nowhere he gets promoted to detective. Along with his promotion, he is ordered to report to the Chief in New Orleans to assist with the investigation of a potential serial killer. They require his expertise, as he was already obsessed with a similar serial killer. When he arrives there, he notices the killings are quite similar to Jack the Ripper's, and they may be dealing with a copycat. While he wants to focus on the investigation, many weird things happen to him in New Orleans that he had not expected. The Mayor, Chief, and Lieutenant Governor want the festival of Mardi Gras to go smoothly amid these killings. While they are all putting pressure on the detectives to find more suspects and catch the killer before the festival, he finds that he has his own strange troubles to deal with. Will his past experience count toward catching the serial killer, or will it make him a target? Is there any other reason why he was transferred here in the first place? Find out the answers and more in the book Mardi Gras Ripper by Billy Lindsay.
I liked how the author explores in depth the city of New Orleans. The author slowly builds every story element and character by describing everything in detail. I liked the mystery reveal and the final answer to all the questions that this case raised. It was, honestly, better than I expected. Different cultural aspects and traditions were covered, which made this book really diverse in its overall storytelling. This book even explores some supernatural beliefs, which increases its mystery element. This crime mystery will keep you guessing until it's resolved. The editing is quite professional, with a few minor errors I noticed.
There was one thing I didn't like. Some chapters in the middle felt overly stretched out and contributed little to the overall storyline. But when I finished the book, I realized it was needed, so I have no complaints.
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The drawback I mentioned does not warrant a lower rating for this book. I was fully satisfied after reading the book. I would recommend this book to fans of the crime and mystery genres, as I believe you won't be disappointed after reading it.
