The Desk from Hoboken: A Genealogy Mystery by ML Condike is an astounding mystery thriller. RaeJean O’Leary Hunter is a Yale graduate forensic genealogist who had worked for the FBI before the early stillbirth of her son derailed her into a career break to heal her depression. One day she receives a voicemail from Professor Michael Carver, Head of the Anthropology Department at Connecticut College in New London. He wants her to identify the human remains found on the college campus. Meeting with Professor Carter, RaeJean learns that the previous genealogist suddenly resigned, and the sponsor is offering a substantial endowment to the college and a bonus to RaeJean if she can identify the remains and find out the cause of death. Professor Carter believes that the remains might be of Mary Rogers, a Manhattan celebrity who mysteriously died in the 19th century. RaeJean accepts this project as a welcome chance to resume her professional life. But will she accomplish this mission?

ML Condike’s The Desk from Hoboken took me on an exhilarating journey as I shadowed RaeJean in her quest. The storyline, spanning centuries and full of skeletons in the cupboards of Mary Rogers’ ancestors, firmly held me in its grip. The suspenseful adventures of RaeJean left me with no dull moments. And, as a cherry on this amazing thriller cake, RaeJean’s corgi Sophie, with her amazing sleuthing abilities, was the true show stealer.

I listened to the audiobook, so I cannot comment on the editing quality of the printed edition. As for the audiobook quality, the talented Carrie Coello perfectly voice-acted every character. The recording quality was perfect, and Carrie’s play-acting was flawless.

I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this captivating story and its production, so I happily rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

I highly recommend this riveting novel to mystery, crime fiction, and action thriller fans, and I look forward to reading the sequel.

A storyline spanning centuries? Talk about a cold case! I never read a crime thriller centered around skeletons that offer a mystery started centuries ago, so I'm curious about this one, which seems well-constructed. Thank you for your great review!
