In “The Rooming House Murder” by Kenny Miller, we follow the story of Chance Mickelson, who returns to his hometown of Lincoln after losing his job as a pilot due to a plane crash that impaired his hearing. Settling into a rundown room at 3138, Chance encounters Franklin Duncan, also known as Double D, who struggles with the oppressive landlord. As Chance adjusts to his new life, securing a job at Tech City Store and developing a relationship with Dindy Cline, the story delves into the harsh realities faced by the tenants. Double D, working as a cook, frequently faces threats from the greedy landlord over unpaid rent. When Double D goes missing, Chance's investigation uncovers dark secrets, leading to a dangerous confrontation and a gripping search for justice.

As I delved into "The Rooming House Murder" by Kenny Miller, I found myself deeply engrossed by the character-driven narrative and the intricate depiction of human relationships under duress. What I appreciated most about this book is its vivid portrayal of how a sense of community and personal integrity can emerge even in the most adverse circumstances.

One of the standout elements is the protagonist, Chance Mickelson, and his unwavering moral compass. After surviving a harrowing plane crash and facing the loss of his career, Chance doesn't succumb to despair. Instead, he embodies resilience and compassion. A striking example of this is his friendship with Franklin Duncan, or Double D.

Despite Double D's humorous speech and financial struggles, Chance sees him as a person deserving of respect and dignity. This is highlighted in the scene where Chance witnesses the landlord humiliating Double D. Instead of remaining a passive observer, Chance offers his support and plans to intervene if the landlord’s abuse continues. This incident reflects the protagonist’s strong ethical stance and his refusal to ignore injustice.

Additionally, the novel's suspenseful plot keeps readers on edge while also providing a commentary on the social issues of neglect and exploitation. The landlord's indifference and greed starkly contrast with Chance's determination to seek justice for his friend, revealing a deep critique of those who prioritize profit over humanity. I like the writing style because it makes the novel easy to read and engaging, attracting readers to finish the story.

This book is exceptionally well-edited, as I found no grammar errors in it. I've also found nothing to dislike about the book; hence, it earns a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

"The Rooming House Murder" is an excellent read for those who enjoy character-driven mysteries with a strong moral core. It’s particularly suitable for readers who appreciate stories where the protagonists are ordinary people displaying extraordinary courage and kindness. This novel is a testament to the power of empathy and the importance of standing up against wrongdoing, making it a compelling choice for anyone seeking a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant story.
