Review of Trust and Betrayal
A real-life story of trust, betrayal, hope, friendship, and the struggles of life is written in Louis Romano’s "Trust and Betrayal: The Levit Fernandini’s Story." In this book, we see the life of Levit as a boss in the drug scene, taking risks, hits, and friendships split on Creston Avenue. Levit, being the leader of the Creston Crew, lives a life that could be taken from him any day as a result of the harsh realities of the drug business and the powers that run the show. Levit manages to build a comfortable life for himself, family, and friends, making sure he takes everyone along, until the day his crimes catch up with him and he has to account for each and every one of them. Trust and Betrayal—you wouldn’t expect the loads of friends that were ready to snitch on Levit in this non-fictional crime thriller that documents his life as a drug lord.
Reading a good book is like being on a nice vacation you wish would never end, and reading this book made me feel that way. I did not want the book to end. Louis Romano left no stone unturned in this book as he dove deep into the drug world through the lens of Levit Fernandini. The book was fast-paced, eye-opening, and exciting. What made it even more exciting was that it is non-fictional, so reading this book and seeing that everything in it really happened was actually mind-blowing. The author put in a lot of work in this book, and it was evident. From highlighting the connections between the drug and music worlds to the gun violence the inhabitants of The Bronx have to endure, it was just perfect. While reading this book, I could feel the emotions in every happy and sad moment experienced by Levit. It’s amazing how the author was able to relate these emotions through mere words. I loved how the author made us understand the role their environment had to play in Levit’s life. I also loved how the author took out time to list out the names of rappers that had been murdered due to the risky intertwinement of the drug and rap scenes.
This book was a masterpiece; I could not find anything to dislike about it. However, I would be giving this book a 4 out of 5 stars because there were lots of errors in it, showing that it was not well edited. Save for that, the book was flawless, evoking the right thoughts and emotions from me as I read it.
I would recommend this book to lovers of crime, thrillers, non-fiction lovers, and readers interested in the drug scene.
