Tom finally opens the letter to find that a large inheritance is coming his way from an unknown relative. He verifies the authenticity of this windfall with the attorney and it is indeed legitimate.
This good news will solve all of his problems and he can stop spending his evenings at the local bar pretending that he has a job. It is around this same time that a girl from his past blows in just like a whirlwind as a waitress at the bar and after some flirting they develop a romantic relationship. He feels that life just cannot get any better, and when he helps his new girlfriend out of a tight financial spot, little does he know that this is just the beginning of the end for him.
As Tom falls more and more in love with the prospect of being well off, he makes a discovery that can ruin his chances of claiming his money. Instead of just leaving well enough alone, he acts upon the advice of his girlfriend and he does what he needs to do, not knowing that his actions will soon come to light. Just how well did he know this girl from his past? Will he still get his money or will his circumstances prevent him from claiming his inheritance?
This book has a lot of action packed into its short length. The love of money is the root of all evil and never is this fact more applicable than in Tom’s situation. Just like so many people who fall on hard times, Tom has a good heart and even better intentions until a large amount of money enters the picture. Money or even the prospect of money changes people and before you know it the trip down that old slippery slope of greed is going at full speed. I like this story because it was entertaining as well as true and the characters were believable I give it a four out of four and recommend it as a page turner that will make you think.
