Trace by Patricia Cornwell (a Scarpetta Novel)
The thrill of Trace engages the reader, while helping the reader understand the methods and terminology that medical examiners use to solve crimes. Patricia Cornwell wrote the series wonderfully and kept me interested to the extent that I was looking at clues and newspaper articles to analyze crime for myself without even really realizing what I was doing.
Scarpetta's partner, Pete Marino, is funny and intimidating, but one of my favorite characters. He cares about the case, suffers from his history with the police force, and sets traps that catch the reader completely by surprise. He sympathizes with the victim's mother and consoles her with his presence.
Overall, the book was extremely interesting and I am looking forward to reading other books in the Scarpetta series.
