Slasher Girls & Monster Boys by April G Tucholke (Horror)

Post by KayBeeTom »

Slasher Girls & Monster Boys is an anthology of classic, pop culture, and musical horror stories that have been selected by April Tucholke to inspire new, unique tales that make your skin crawl. All of the stories are unique in that there is no one topic, time, location, or style which repeats. Every story provides a new experience. Some of them could be considered realistic; others are supernatural--and all of them are ghastly, gory, and gruesome.

For parents:
Based on violence alone, this book is NOT great for teens who squirm at the thought of a little blood. There are references to sexual behavior, self-harm, and drugs/alcohol, as well...not to mention the innate poor decision-making skills in horror stories. I'm not going to gloss over the fact that some of the themes in these stories made me uneasy, too.

Honestly, I had hoped to have this book done far sooner. About half of the stories have completely enthralled me. From serial killers to lonely ghosts, this collection should please anyone who likes quick and simple plots. In saying that, I did not like (roughly) the other half. For some, I just didn't like the plot. Other times, it seemed to drag on too long, or the characters weren't interesting, or whatever it may have been. I'm not going to say it was a terrible book by any means, but I will say this will not ever be on my Would-Read-Again list.
