It sounds like a character-driven book with heavy themes. I hope that Juan can learn from his mistakes and return on the right path. Thanks for the detailed review.

Juan seems to have gone through mental turmoil in his life that has caused him to become the person he is. It sounds like he is not all evil because he is taking care of his siblings, so he might have a heart of gold that he tucks away to protect himself from any more turmoil.

Good review. I have been racking my brain trying to remember when the last time I heard the term bildungsroman. I bet you dimes-to-dollars its been 30 years!
This fictional work was able to transport me to a world I have been blessed not to know.

Thank you for a great review. An intriguing plotline where readers follow Juan, a street kid, who navigates his morality on the streets. It is sad to think that children have to grow-up mentally to survive in the adult world. I also learnt a new word "bildungsroman", so thanks and congrats on BOTD.

This book sounds heavier than I'm interested in reading at the moment, so I think I will pass, but it seems interesting all the same. Thank you for your review, and congratulations on Book of the Day!

Juan really tried a whole lot in managing the responsibility as a child as a result of his careless Mom

A child is both a gift and a responsibility given to parents. The role parents play in has a lot to with what he/ she becomes. It's sad that Juan in this story has to be nutured and with all the negative ideas.. The book portrays a lot about about the suffering that a lot of children from broken homes go through.
Thanks for your review.

This is a good review. The book shows the nature of the society we live in today. It can be ruthless and ugly at the same time. Juan takes up responsibilities at such a young age considering how effortless his mother is. I enjoyed reading the book together with the review and would recommend it.

After reading the sample, I sympathized with Juan greatly. Not only was his childhood rough, but he had to grow up and raise a family he did not choose to have. What became of him? What about the ghosts? Thanks for the review!

A phycological thought-provoking thriller with drugs, human trafficking, guns, planes, and adventure. A tale of a young man's life through an unfit mother, poverty, alcohol, and hunger.

The plot sounds a worth read. Juan was a good and caring person who took responsibility for his siblings which also grow up in such a bad environment. Under the pressure of harsh reality and without proper parenting had turn him into an evil man. I wonder if his siblings also become like him. But the sexual contents make me uneasy. Thank you for a detailed review.
