A lot of people want to have fame and fortune that they would trample on others just to get it. I like how this is used in this novel. Both want to find a cure, but one wants to win a Nobel Prize while the other doesn't. I would love to know more about the story.

Who said scientists aren't competitive? Thanks for the review, this seems like an excellent book that highlights the somewhat counter intuitive world of medical research where recognition, grant money and careers can be decided based on whose name is typed first on a piece of paper. It seems despicable that the cure for Alzheimer's could be put on hold for 'fame and fortune,' but that may just be an unavoidable side effect of the system we have.

Amazing that research to help people can turn into a war of corruption and self aggrandisement.

I find that I usually don't have the patience to sit through a book waiting for justice to be served, so I don't know if this book is right for me. The plot doesn't sound that interesting and although it is a good thing that the author got you so invested that you were kind of mad at the characters... I don't know if I would like that. But great review!

Sometimes the best books are the ones that generate a reaction. I would rather feel angry and upset at the characters (which sounds like that was what the author was going for) than feel nothing for them at all. Also, rare to see a C/M/T/H book that is described as not necessarily action-packed, but still unputdownable. I'm glad you enjoyed the book, and you've managed to pique my interest in it too!

Sounds like an engrossing book! All the drama over an Alzheimer's cure, not a plot I'd have expected to come out of the suspense genre. I'm glad to hear it's an enticing read!

Might be good if certain mood strikes you. But maybe it's just me been a little bit touchy with anything medical related.

Oh boy...Will Pam be able to take credit of her potential treatment for Alzheimer's or will Eric be able to steal her discovery and label her as a fraud? This does sound like an exciting book! It's great to hear that the story captured your attention, even if it wasn't action-packed, so much so that it was hard to put down. I love being absorbed in characters' lives; it makes a read even more meaningful. Having a mix of mystery and psychological aspects makes this sound like a great book! I'm glad that you were able to enjoy this one! Thank you for the insightful review!

At least three people (Eric, Pam and Holly) are in a mad rush to find the cure for Alzheimer's. Eric and Holly have their eyes set on reaping the accolades for that feat. Pam's primary motivation is to help those afflicted with the disease like her mother, now deceased. I wonder who will meet with success.

I, too, have a personal stake in finding the cure. My mother had stroke-induced dementia; she passed on in 2016. My father has it now; he is 90.

I am definitely interested in reading this book, especially with the stellar recommendation. Thanks, Kandscreeley!

The prize by Geoffrey M Cooper
When status quo don't seem to be fair and realistic, when it doesn't seem to consider your passion and tireless drive towards a certain goal, you either hear the crowd or your heart, one thing is sure passion always some how finds its expression. It kept me on the edge, even though i am not interested in medical write ups,but it caught my attention, do feel free to catch a bite, its worth it!!

I love books that extract such strong emotions from you. The author has done his job well then. This is not my type of book with all the medical references, so I will pass. But congratulations on BOTD.
