Stories that make you question your morality and disturbing are sometimes the best kind of story. They get into your head and under your skin. That is excellent storytelling, no matter the content. I tend to stay away from this type of content because of the uneasiness it gives. This review describes this book very well and that it is not for the faint of heart.

After reading the OBC review of Making Monsters, I was intrigued. I am definitely adding this to my “to be read” shelf. It seems this story examines many relevant, yet difficult, themes. Some themes discussed in the review include racism, domestic violence/abuse, gender bias, mental illness, and murder/death. Based on the review I read, it also seems as though this book might fit into two separate genres. While it definitely fits into the C/T/M/H genre, it might also fit into the fantasy and sci-fi genres as well. I suppose I won’t know until I read it! I am looking forward to seeing how the authors combine these different themes to make a cohesive, comprehensive story plot.

This review offers a glimpse of Vander's struggling story and his supernatural gift. I hope at the end of this story, Vander will find answers for his mysterious gift.

The premise is really fascinating. It seems thrilling and full of action. The book cover is also fantastic btw. Might read it later, since it's free.

Despite the many grave themes throughout this book, the promise of intrigue, suspense, mystery, emotions, and thrills will attract many readers in the pursuit of their own monsters.

I love this review, it’s very informative and simple. The plot of this book is intriguing, it sounds depressing for a young boy though.

Thank you for the detailed review; the author seems to have covered a lot of heavy themes, although I wonder if there is something deeper when the portrayal of Africa is less than positive, or is it something that the author could delve deeper into.

A boy, 9 years old, a visionary, in the person of Vander Masozi, living miserably with an over abusive father, being extremely patient of this dire conditions, dreams that one day be free from extreme poverty. So he struggles to find the answer behind the wall. I am interested to finish the book to know the outcome. Thanks for your concise review.

I am already unsettled just reading the review. How a young child like Vander can strive in a situation like Cape Town's environment with its racism, poverty and discrimination is beyond me. Thanks for your review

Seeing news from television , watching abused children and women is not far from this book. It hurts to see how is this happens. We can only wish that we can escape from the brutality and this cruel world.

I hope Vander can find happiness for him and his mother. The story is very heavy, readers must not be very sensitive. Congrats on BOTD!

This review did help in giving me an insight into what the book is about, and it's truly a thriller. I like that it touches societal realities. It would surely be in my bookshelf.
