Though what you call a "lack of sideshows" seems like an interesting narrative device to keep the reader turning pages, I can't stand books that lack character development. That's why reviews like yours are so important. Thank you.

Why does Hailey have this hunch that Burke is linked to the murders? I am curious to find out, and since I enjoy mystery and murder books I am not discouraged by the lack of character development.

I am familiar with the character of Relic since I have read another book by this author. I am sure I am going to enjoy this. Thanks for your review.

This is obviously one of the most interesting reviews I have read in recent time. I am certainly going to do this book to my bookshelf. Congratulation on being the BOTD!

Sampling the book, Relic's ordeal with flash floods and survival gripped me wanting to read on. A W Baldwin has written well, well-designed and fitting the murder mystery genre. Your book review is neat and interesting not giving away the plot. Good work!

Judging from this review, Broken inn should be a good read for lovers of crime fiction. Realising the author didn't really dig deep into the characters' background has kind of put me off though, a lack of that flaw is what makes Nora Robert's books exceptional.

I'm a bit confused how the reviewer indicates that this is a masterpiece yet awards only 3 out of 4 stars. I'll be taking a pass on this as this book is part of a series and I'm not in the market for a series at the moment, even though I realize that the Relic books are quite good. From previous reviews of Mr. Baldwin's books, I know that these are terrific mysteries and I applaud Mr. Baldwin for consistently earning BOTD honors.

The cover of this book is fantastic. I would read it because of that. The blurb delivered enough to pique my interest, but the sample is the one that got me. The book started great. It was thrilling; the writing was excellent. I already love Relic.

taking the road less traveled is bad enough, but witnessing a murder is another ball game all together. Hailey could definitely be better off.

For me, the character development part in any novel is a very important aspect. Because of the lack of character development in this book, I'm hesitant to give this book a try. But I like the plot of this book. I'm sure many readers will love this book.
Thanks for this amazing review. :tiphat:

Sounds like an exciting book packed full of action!! It’s also interesting to combine a desert with a murder as well. It seems like a book I may enjoy.

That's unfortunate about the character development. I might give it a shot anyway because the plot sounds interesting. Thanks for the review.

I love fast paced boom with suspense. And I don't know why she wouldn't want to report the murder to the authorities.

How awesome that the author was so aptly able to portray suspense that you got anxious! And very cool that the book brings up ecosystem preservation in a meaningful way. Too bad that the character development lagged behind, though. Thank you for your review!

I love, love, love, LOVE a face paced story! Especially for reading. It makes me sad that there's not character development though. And I might be a little biased to the name Carol since it's my Mom's :D
