Even though I will not spend my time on earth trying to figure out the extent to which supernatural forces work among humans, I still believe that there are things that can only be explained by the supernatural. Maybe the missing Romanian child has a supernatural undertone, maybe not. Either, I'll find out when I read the book.

When Naomi received a prophecy that her child would be stolen two more times, she felt devastated.
- How is that even possible, is he returned in order to be stolen again? How curious. I must read it and find out. The review was very catchy. Thank you.

The author seems to excel at creating moral complexity in characters. The portrayal of Gunari, a desperate man driven to commit a terrible act, highlights the gray areas of human behavior and the lengths people might go to when faced with dire circumstances.

By starting in 1920s Bucharest and spanning decades, this book seems to offer a rich, multi-generational narrative that explores themes of fate, desperation, and the long-term consequences of our actions.

In lieu of flowers by Keith Steinbaum brings to light the rot in our society where evil reigns supreme. To accept an assignment of kidnapping someone's child and dare to even pray to God for help is truly indescribable to say the least.WE are a world reduced to super degrading moral values. How heartless can one be......?A must read for me.

Kidnapping is not acceptable. And asking God to help and truly expecting the help is just insane. I realize that Gunari had ver few options, but this is ridiculous. Congratulations on BOTD!

I love the eerie vibe of the book, but I'm hesitant about a narrative that perpetuates stereotypes that have been very harmful to the Jewish community: https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/ ... lood-libel
I also agree with you that it's beyond unempathetic to harm a future mother when your wife is going through the same.
Thank you for your review.

Keith Steinbaum masterfully blends suspense, history, and the supernatural to create a narrative that keeps one hooked from start to finish. The book makes one ponder over the delicate balance between fate and free will.

"In Lieu of Flowers" by Keith Steinbaum is a gripping and thought-provoking fictional tale that delves into the life of a stolen Romanian/Jewish child and the dark forces that manipulate human destiny. The story, set in 1920s Bucharest, follows Gunari, a desperate cobbler who agrees to a morally conflicting deal, leading to a series of life-altering events. Highly recommended for fans of suspenseful fiction and deep, philosophical questions. Congratulations on being BOTD!

This is the story of a Romanian person who has to deal with challenging events. He has to kidnap a baby, and he eventually accepts. Things will not go as planned. Eventually, dark forces will play a role. Or maybe not.
Book allow you to fully explore a topic and immerse yourself in a deeper way than most media today. Mark Zuckerberg.

"In Lieu of Flowers" by Keith Steinbaum is an evocative tale of prophecies, fate, personal decisions, moral boundaries, and loss. The story evokes readers' emotions such that readers could feel the characters' emotions. It seems readers need to be informed that there is a bit of racial context in the book. Overall, the book is a worthy read, meriting a five-star rating.

There is nothing good that comes from an act motivated by a desperate situation. Desperation causes one to act rashly and make decisions without considering the consequences. I will follow through on Gunari's story to find out how he navigated through his desperate situation and if he was able to overcome the challenges he faced.
