Today's BOTD is a political thriller that follows former intelligence operative and single mother Cora Walker as she confronts the president’s authoritarian power grab that threatens American democracy. As civil liberties crumble and chaos ensues, Cora races to protect the Speaker of the House, as well as the nation’s founding principles. I think this is going to be a great read!! Thank you for the helpful review! :-)

The book sounds interesting and exciting. It's an action-packed and an eventful thriller but too much politics for me. Still congratulations on becoming BOTD!

Congrats on BOTD!
In terms of action, treachery, and bravery, "Second Term" is a strong political drama. Cora Walker, mom, fighting specialist, and moral guardian, battles to thwart a despotic president's bloody ascent to authority. Fans of shrewd, high-stakes melodrama should not miss this. Best wishes!

In "Second Term" by J.M. Adams, I really love Cora's character and resolve not to kill innocent people. I'm certainly rooting for her to save Sarah. Congratulations on the book of the day.

J.M. Adams' debut novel, Second Term, is a gripping political thriller that delves into the fragility of democracy amidst escalating political extremism. Set in a near-future America, the narrative follows Cora Walker, a former Defense Intelligence operative and single mother, as she confronts a constitutional crisis threatening the nation's core principles.

The story commences in 2012, with Cora Walker defying orders to thwart a terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya. Sixteen years later, in 2028, Cora serves as the press secretary to the Speaker of the House. Her life takes a perilous turn when the outgoing President, Terrance Locke, refuses to concede defeat after losing the election. In a desperate bid to retain power, Locke suspends habeas corpus, arrests members of Congress, and orchestrates a violent insurrection. Cora must navigate a treacherous political landscape to protect the Speaker and uphold democratic values.

Second Term resonates with contemporary political anxieties, drawing inspiration from real events such as the January 6 Capitol attack. The novel explores themes of authoritarianism, the erosion of democratic norms, and the individual's role in safeguarding liberty.

The novel has garnered acclaim for its fast-paced storytelling and timely subject matter. Reviewers have lauded it as a "ticking time bomb of a political thriller" and praised Adams for crafting a narrative that is both thrilling and thought-provoking. Reader reviews echo this sentiment, highlighting the book's suspenseful plot and the protagonist's compelling journey.

Second Term stands out as a formidable entry in the political thriller genre, offering a narrative that is as entertaining as it is reflective of current societal concerns. With its dynamic protagonist and incisive commentary on political power, the novel is a must-read for those interested in the complexities of modern governance and the resilience of democratic institutions.

One can find a story of not killing a person in cold blood in the future American political thriller "Second Term" by J.M. Adams. The story follows Cora, a woman with many combat skills.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

This story really pulls me in—Cora Walker sounds like the kind of heroine I’d admire: strong, skilled, but grounded by deep values. The mix of political tension, personal sacrifice, and emotional depth makes it feel real. I’d honestly love to follow her journey firsthand. Congrats BOTD!

Second Term by J.M. Adams pulled me in more than I expected—it’s not just a political thriller, it’s a story about how power corrupts and how far people will go to protect or expose the truth. I found myself really drawn to Cora, especially how relentless and sharp she is, even when the odds are stacked against her. Her dynamic with the president was intense and personal, and it made me reflect on how difficult it must be to stick to your principles when you’re surrounded by manipulation and danger. The plot twists kept me on edge, but it was the moral gray areas that stuck with me after turning the last page. It really made me think about how fragile democracy can be when people in power start to treat the truth like a tool instead of a responsibility.

Cora, the main character,
...was a mother, a warrior, and a competent civil servant. She was a woman who had great calm during a storm. Fearless, she never missed her shots. She loved her daughter, Abby, so much, but bemoaned the fact that she didn't spend enough time with her.
-It's amazing if one woman can achieve all this. I like the fact that most of the main characters are female too. I will check this book out. Thank you for a fearless review.

Thank you for your review. I read the sample. The female warrior was rare and fierce in the sample. She went to the ambassador to warn him about the lack of security and the impossible location to keep him safe. I hope he listened.

I truly love the character of Cora, a woman who is a very important person for me in this book. I love that she is brave, smart and only kills when it is necessary, such as in the defense of human lives, peace and of course to restore order within the Nation.
