From a sampling, this seems like an interesting thriller story following a young boy, Vander Masozi, who has a supernatural power that allows him to access a terrifying world, which he finds as an escape from his painful life. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

For me, the review conjured a mixed feeling of empathy for the young lad, Vander Masozi, and some level of nostalgia generally. It is not a read for the faint-hearted. An impressive review nonetheless.

I'm almost scared to read this book. A 9-year-old facing all these challenges seems too horrific for me.

Such a well-descriptive review for a book that have dark themes. I am interested in this book because I want to see what happens to Vander in the end. Congrats on having BOTD!

There's just so much that a little boy can take. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to deal with such vicissitudes of life at a young age. This book is a must-read.

It is difficult to face the stark realities life has to offer us, as seen through Vander's life. However, as sad and troubling as these are, we cannot always sweep them under the carpet. This review is detailed and insightful. I enjoyed reading it. Congrats to the author on a captivating and thought-provoking BOTD.

The story seems thrilling despite the dark themes throughout the story. However I would like to pass this book due to the graphic depictions of death and violence. Congrats on BOTD!!

A nine year old boy going through all those tragic things is depressing. Vander is a boy most adults can emulate and draw strength from, though most times I wonder why women don't leave abusive marriages if not for themselves but for their children. Domestic violence takes a great toll on adults health not to talk of children. Thanks for the amazing review

This nine-year-old boy seems to live in a very bleak world based on the review provided. When I read, I tend to stay away from the heavy themes in life, even though they are definitely present. And, this sounds like a book that poses serious questions. There is no doubt that it raises very complicated and painful issues for any society to deal with. The review is very good.

The protagonist is Vander, a South African boy with supernatural abilities who lives in the slums of South Africa. The author presents Vander's harsh life and highlights the challenges he faces as he tries to beat poverty and develop himself.

Living with an alcoholic father and a mentally challenged mother as a child isn't easy. It's so sad what Vander had to go through. Making Monsters by AJ Parnell & Chuck Duncan is an amazing book.

Thank you for your interesting review. I'm glad you liked the book. From sampling it, I kind of felt like it was an accident where you don't want to look, but can't help from looking. I don't believe I need any more dark things in my life at this time, so I will pass on it. But I'm sure those that like thrillers and dark stories will enjoy it.

Vander seems to have a very sad and miserable life. He provides sustenance to his family so that his abusive father won't harm him and his mother. But he has a supernatural gift that provides him with access to a different world. Congratulations on BOTD!
