Thriller and mysteries are one of my favorite genres. Im ok with some paranormal as long as it doesnt get too corny. Your review was very informative, and I will definitely give it a try. Thank you

This doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but I really enjoyed your review. I can relate to your wanting more details and imagery. I just read a children's book that had a lot of missed opportunities for richness in dialogue and background. Thanks for the great introduction to this book.

Sounds like an intriguing novella. It must be interesting having those voodoo glasses to help solve a crime case. It is a pity that the editing was not well done.

Seeing that it is a series I doubt I would want to read this one without the others. Also I like my mystery novels without any supernatural twists. I'll pass on this one.

I do enjoy reading supernatural realms, but novellas from the spirit world are not my thing. When listening to stories about spirits and voodoo work, makes me very scared and doubtful of such action. "La Isla de la Muerte" is a fictional book, but there are live voodoo being practiced right here in places such as New Orleans and other cities. About the pair of eyeglasses to contact spirits and the voodoo queen is another thing that would make me feel uncomfortable, not that there is no such thing, but base on my experience with a voodoo queen, it was horrible and very frightful. I think your review is detail and interesting but I would pass on this book. Great review

This seems like an interesting book. Since the reviewer did state there were some spoilers in this book, I probably wouldn't read this book right away, but look up the others in the series first. I am very interested in reading this book as it does have some aspects that I have not really heard of before like the magical glasses that allow him to speak to spirits and the priestess.
Mad Hatter: "Have I gone mad?"
Alice: "I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”

While I usually am a fan of a good mystery, I don’t generally enjoy reading a book in a series if I haven’t read the first book. I think that even with the prologue’s explanation or recap, I would still need more detail (the kind only found from actually reading) to thoroughly enjoy. I like the title though!

Thanks so much for your helpful review! Today's BOTD sounded great to me, right up to the part of the super power glasses. While I love a good mystery, the supernatural elements are not really an interest of mine. Either way, for those who do prefer that side of fiction, this one might be the page turner you've been looking for! Thanks, again! :-)

It is interesting to mix the supernatural into the mystery. It sounds like a fun novella.

Wow. A pair of glasses with magical powers to help prove his innocent of a murder he did not commit. Interesting. Plus, it's a novella so I know if I don't like it, I won't have to suffer for long considering how short it is.

I was a bit lost when I was sampling the book. Your review helped detail the main plot points. I am interested in the supernatural elements of the book especially the Voodoo and special glasses. Thanks for a good and interesting review.

Based on the absorbing premise of being ensconced in a case while on a seemingly tranquil event as a honeymoon, these novella draws in the reader. When he begins to investigate one case the truth of the island starts to unravel, revealing the secrets of the island and its inhabitants. By using an enchanted object through the glasses, Detective Miller is be attached to these searches in a very unique manner. The ability to use this sacred item for his own good as well as to attempt to solve a previously unsolved murder is a crucial plot point. You have beautifully encapsulated the story, thank you for your insights.

Despite what the travel agent said, I’m thinking I wouldn’t choose The Island of the Dead as my honeymoon destination. Due to the editing issues and my general lack of interest in the genre, I’ll skip this one.

I have to say I didn't quite follow the story from the beginning despite the "what's gone on before" of the prologue. Also didn't like the pace but it will be interesting to read and find out how the story ends. Thanks for your insightful review.
