I shall greatly recommend the Lincoln Rhyme series by Jeffrey Deaver! I think he is a literary genius and every single one of these books I have read so far have made me gasp and want to get another one!
Also the book entitles Blindness by José Saramago had me cringing (in the most delightful way!) and unable to put it away, and whenever I had to, it stayed in my mind until I was able to read another page!
Hope these suggestions help :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I am not familiar with this author, nor have I heard of the titles but I shall look into them.

One of my favorite horror writers is Joe Hill. His first novel was a Heart Shaped Box and it was phenomenal. I love scary movies and scary books so it takes a lot to creep me out. The book is about an aging rocker named Jude who likes to collect the strange and unusual. His latest addition to his collection is a haunted suit. Joe Hill's ghost is chilling, with eyes that are scribbled out; something about the way he describes the ghost in the book gave me the chills. Since the Heart Shaped Box, he's released another novel called Horns which I also really liked and he's released a series of short stories called 20th Century Ghost. He does quite a bit in graphic novels and now that he's making more of a name for himself it's become more common knowledge that he's Stephen King's son. I haven't read his most recent novel, NOS4A2, but it's on my list to get soon.

I'm really not into 'Horror' in books or movies. My interest is more into the 'Crime, Thriller & Mystery' genre. I have read a few of Stephen King's books, which I have really enjoyed. Interesting info that Joe Hill is Stephen's son, I was not aware of that - does he only write horror?

I wouldn't say that all of Joe Hill's books are 'horror'. His 2nd novel, Horns, is about this guy who is accused of killing his girlfriend. He goes on a bender one night and wakes up with horns that only he can see. When he touches people they tell him their deepest, darkest secrets. It was kind of a bizarre story but I don't think I would call it 'horror'; maybe more along the lines of fantasy or sci-fi but with a dark edge. He's a great author, I'd definitely recommend checking him out.

I’d love to recommend u one of my favourites, yet not so much well known. One can find a bunch of stories which will grab u right into the story, and u won't be able to stop reading nor to move out of the bed. Pretty much scary, as well as a little bit erotic, that's what everyone loves, isn't it? :)) Oh well, the book is Cozy Chilling Bedtime Stories by Gibey.

Thank you for your suggestions and referrals, I really appreciate them. My husband & grandson are big Stephen King fans so I have told them about Joe Hill. I will have to check him out myself, also Cozy Chilling Bedtime Stores - sounds very intriguing.
At the moment I am heavily into James Patterson's series (any of them) even those with co-writers, great story lines.

Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King. Collection of short stories that makes one question the human psyche. Loved it!

sheaman wrote:Murder on the Orient Express is a great mystery book to pick up if you're looking for a good read. It's part of Agitha Chrisie's Poroit series, so if you've never really been into AC you may not like it.

The basic idea of the story is that someone has been murdered on a train that is stuck in the snow. Poroit--a professional detective--happens to be stuck on this train as well. One of the passengers is the murderer.

(I know the way I describe it the book sounds like it has the plot line of a Nancy Drew, but it's really a lot more complex and compelling.)

Agatha Christie is my favorite author and this is definitely one of my favorite books!

Any recommendations on other authors similar to Agatha Christie? I love her style of writing and the time era of her books, as well the mystery aspect of it.

If you like modern crime thrillers, Karin Slaughter writes good books. I have read a lot of her work & have enjoyed them all.

I have just finished reading "Fallen" and would give it a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

I liked "Fallen" a lot because the narrative was action packed, very violent, it focused on relationships (family, friends, love & hatred) & I felt a lot of suspense when reading it.

In "Fallen" Karin Slaughter focuses on character development. Whilst reading it I learnt a lot of new things about the characters Will Trent, Amanda Wagner & Faith Mitchell who she regularly focuses upon in her crime writing. In her future books, I think I will be able to enjoy them more, because I will have a greater understanding of their personalities, motives and life history when she writes about them. In addition, "Fallen"acts as a conduit and finally manages to successfully combine the characters from Karin's previous books together into one credible story.

If you read "Fallen", I hope you enjoy it too.

I cannot say that all of Stephen King's books are to my taste. But a few classics really caught my interest. Mainly 'It' and 'Tommyknockers'. Both were chilling with strong notes of sci-fi and fantasy. Especially Tommy-knockers.... brrrr....gradually changing into a hostile and brutal alien race through contact with their technology buried in a forest.... It gave me the creeps for days... I had complex dreams, featuring freaky aliens trying to take over earth, due to my overactive imagination. But really exciting...I hadn't been so engrossed in a book for ages!

Karin Slaughter has got to be on a par with Karen Rose and that's praise from me as I really enjoy Karen Rose. All books full of suspense and inter linked so try and read from book 1. Each book has a twist at the end which even I didn't see coming. All are fairly long books but once you start are hard to put down. Great holiday reads. Well to be honest anytime reads!
