Thanks for the honest review. The one thing I really hate is a rushed ending. I'll probably have to skip this one.

You must have some determination to read the book twice just to understand your mixed feelings about it. I've read the free sample and the beginning sounds like that of a typical thriller. It did not strike me with anything out of the ordinary. Thank you for your honest review!

It sounds like this book would be a good quick entertaining read, but wouldn't necessarily require a lot of focus. I'll have to remember this one for when I need a book between more heavy novels.

Its always a let down when the beginning of the book promises something that doesn't get delivered by the end.

The expansion is very interesting because it is written in a simple and straight forward language.Kudos to the review.I would read this book multiples of time to really get the fact.

Great review. I really do not like the fact you found max character very gullible, being the lead character. for that reason I wouldn't even want to read the book, but I might.

You're right! The book starts strongly and seems like is going too keep that rythm... at least this is what appears at the beginning. The death of the parents, a child taking the bad news and a friendship, which as I see from the review will continue for many years, but I'm dissapointed to learn that this doesn't go on during the whole book. Interested to know what will happen to Alex

I'm impressed that you read it twice if you weren't sold on the first reading. I'm definitely someone who reads books more than once, but only if I loved them a lot!

After reading the preview (and putting the book back on the self), I would agree with this review that it is not the high octane book one would assume.
This book is great for those who enjoy reading about drama in personal and business lives. The prologue totally threw me off guard, which prompted me to continue reading. It was unfortunate to learn that it wasn't used much in the overall story. There are sections that kept me interested but overall I was unamused reading about all the drama in the lives of someone biding on a project.

After reading the sample, I can see what is meant about a big start and then things going really slow. Maybe it is was done with the intention of getting the reader into a false sense of security? Whatever the intent was, I am definitely interested in reading The Expansion especially since it mentions a place of history.

Ive read the prologues. To me it seems as if they were two different authors. The first prologue was quick but i found it interesting. More like a spy thriller. The second seemed more frazzled. Not sure where it was going. However i will give it a chance and read it.

Thank you so much for this honest review. When I was reading the review, I had to read it twice to understand which character was doing what, but now that makes more sense that the book was hard to follow as well. I do not think I will add this one to my to read shelf.

I'm usually into crime thrillers, but based on your review, I don't think this one's a book for me. Your description of Max gives me the impression that he'd bug the heck out of me. :P Thanks for this thoughtful review!

Behind every tender process in an emerging economy, there are selfish interests that involve governments, corporates and individuals.
The expansion of the Panama Canal is not different from the others.
The only difference is that greater forces are interested this time. In such thrillers, novelists give readers an inside image of what happens inside government deals and what is likely to happen when they go sour.
An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.

Any book that is well written and professionally edited is worth reading, especially when the characters are well developed. Thanks for this honest review.
