I Havent read any Mary Higgins Clark but have read some reviews which all tend to be favourable. Tess Gerritsen is another great authour of crime/suspense novels. I must of read in excess of 20 books by this author and can honestly say have not been disappointed in any of them.

Just finished the trilogy of gangster stories; The drop, The damage and The dead by Howard Linskey. Gripping, exciting and full of black humor, set on Tyneside. Highly recomended.

If you are looking for fun, quirky mysteries I am a big fan of the Lizzie Crenshaw series by Teresa Watson. Her books are all novellas, so they go quickly. Lizzie is a super klutz and you cannot help but laugh at some of the predicaments she gets into: crimes just seem to happen around her. Watson's style is definitely a mix of humor and crime.

My stepmother was a huge Mary Higgins Clark fan when I was growning up. I used to sneak them and read them under the covers with a flash light. Some of my favorites are the ones she writes with her daughter Carol such as: Deck the Halls and He Sees You When You are Sleeping.

I just got done reading a book called It All Began In Monte Carlo by Elizabeth Adler and it was very good. I also have read a few more books by her and I enjoyed them.

louandel wrote:Hi,

As far as Crime novels go I don't think there is anyone who can touch Elmore Leonard. A unique writer who picks on on diction and how people inter-relate so well. He specialises in writing about the New York underworld and from the Criminals point of view. Try Jackie Brown, Swag or Mr. Majestic. All are fast books - once you have picked them up you wont put them down - they are powerful page turners with a cute black sense of humour. Each character is brilliantly drawn so you end up really feeling for the main protagonist. (I ought to say his Westerns are brilliant to - try Last stand at Saber River - but I am not sure that should be in the is section!)

RIP Elmore Leonard....lost a great one today

This is the third time I've posted about this already, but the Archer Mayor books are worth reading (I'm not a promoter, I promise!). It's got the slow-paced rural New England backdrop with some heavy duty crime laced in. One thing I don't like is that the author switched voices halfway through the series. I got so used to reading Joe's mind, it was weird to see through the rest of the characters all of a sudden. It did open up his stories a little more, though.

Crime and thriller reminds me of school days when i didnt had any scene of reading and started reading Hardy boys and Nancy Drew. But now when i think about it I laugh about the old days

I found that some of the scariest literature I have read has been in short stories, and I am a huge fan of the horror&mystery genre so I have read a lot of page-heavy books.I think its because of the suspense in a short story and perhaps the fact a lot of short stories end at the climax of the story.

Personally I am a Stephen king addict. I read "The Stand" ten years ago and haven't been able to find a book comparable since. I have branched off to try some others, dean Koontz, micheal creighton etc but I inevitably end up back with a Stephen king novel immediately afterwards. Anyone have any suggestions on other "king worthy" authors?
