I feel the depicted racial debate in the Talk of Town show is the least desirable aspect of this book. I wonder why this had to be included at all as if the world has not had enough of this racial diatribe. Nice review.

I love this review! You wrote down all the things that I needed to know. Racism is one of the issues in our time that never gets old. I love to have a new perspective about it. Thanks for this review, I'll give the book a try.

Thank you for a great review, I love that you said, " who has to defend their race, you can't help what race you are born into." This sounds like a thought provoking book filled with tense scenes. Definitely a must read!

Thanks for the review. I believe in treating all human beings equally. Currently I am not interested in reading about America's racial politics. So I will pass reading this book.

The title of the book is galvanized and it seems that the substance of this book touches a sensitive subject that still prevails today - the racism. The scene of debate between Dalton (the White) and Harper ( the African American) seems intense, bitter, and self- damaging. Without doubt, is a must-read, for me. I like the author's view of this ideology of separation, that he developed in his work. Great review! Thanks!

Interesting how the author used the characters to let the reader know how beliefs could be both useful and harmful. Maybe a bit more characterization of Kimberly would have been great, too. Great review.

Mixed Blessings by J. M. Muse is a #Contemporary #Fiction with underlying themes of #Race, #Racism, and #Politics. Set in Los Angeles, both Kimberly (a Biracial American) and Kublai Khan (a revolutionary black minister) confront racial hatred, murder, and chaos. It is a story about moving beyond race as a label and embracing the human spirit.

Thanks for the review.

This was a nice review. It sounds like there is a much-needed discussion in the book about the current state of racism and wars based on religion. Racism may have their roots in a time way behind us, but people like Pastor Tucker and his men seem to ensure that it is never forgotten.

Black or white, yellow or whatever, we are all one in nature as humans, thus only one thing, ( colour) should not separate us. Racism should be considered a crime, I think. Good review

Based on the review this book is not something that I would enjoy reading. I am not a fan of crime/mystery books. I also don’t like to read about racism. I don’t read books with religious content or beliefs. I will pass on reading this book.

The review gives a great insight into the book. It is fascinating to see that religion wields a spell over the all powerful as well as the weak and how it's being used as a weapon to propagate racial hatred. The author also includes Kimberly, a biracial girl, treated kindly by her other family, which portrays the two faces of a coin symbolising racism.

I would be interested in finding out about this new "race" that Khan is wanting to invent. I also found the concept of self-identification of one's race on the census fascinating. How far could that actually be taken? Using religious beliefs to make a point is always risky but it sounds as if the author did an amazing job. Wonderful review as always!

I liked that the author chose to use religious entities to show how both whites and people of color have used religion to propagate racial wars. Muse used the characters to demonstrate how religious beliefs can be both useful and harmful, depending on how they are applied.Mixed Blessings is a women's thriller about moving beyond skin color in relationships.
