Thanks for a good review. I agree that the author is trying to subtly persuade his readers to see that circumstances play a vital role in formation of character and behavior of a person. This means that young people are hardly responsible for what they become. Therefore, condemnation of antisocial behaviour should neither be harsh nor absolute.

The first thing that springs to mind at the mention of 'The Making of Evil' is the first woman. Ok, ok before somebody start mud-slinginng me, while reading up and came on the word Bildungsroman, it sounded like Bavaria in Southern Germany, and I couldn't fathom how that clicks with a Spanish Juan.
Based on the review's expose, I want to read this book selectively of what is involved, sex not drugs and crime or violence and abuse, butbat the end it's somebody's life put into perspective and you should marvel how God brings out many a gem put of what is seemingly 'dirt' from the author's espouse. I think it's worth reading, no matter how comfortable you're in your comfort-zone, having an ideas of what multitudes like Juan live through and call their life must surely touch your heart to lend a helping hand when you can and while you still live your comfortable life. Remember the story of the Rich man and Lazarus....

I would wish everyone is able to have a positive childhood to enable them have positive esteem. Juan though gone through hardship does his best to surpass them. Such an interesting book. A nice review too.

The author's perfect knowledge of drug trafficking, weaponry, and human trafficking almost make made me thought this book is a memoir. Great storyline and amazing plot. Congrats on being the #BOTD!

I initially thought the title to be a tad hyperbolic, but now I see it's apt. It's evident Juan was made evil. It's so true we're shaped by our surroundings. Your introduction succinctly captures the essence of the book.

All it took to make poor Juan the absolute evil was bad parenting. The lesson to be learnt is quite obvious, I like that. Thanks and great job on the review.
I believe that great success is possible in any field - From music to mathematics to macro trading.

In the The Making of Evil by C. Ross Dutton,
we see Juan growing up surrounded by negative factors that leave him with the wrong morals. Such evils like sexual abuse, drug trafficking, debauchery are exposed in this book.

It’s sad that some kids are exposed to evil and wrongs at a young age when they cannot even recognise right from wrong, either because of being an orphan or because of their parent’s negligence. Thanks for a detailed review!

It’s sad how some kids are driven to evil and don’t recognise good from bad solely because of being orphaned or their parent’s negligence. Thanks for a detailed review!

I love rags to riches stories especially when the person had to go through a lot of challenges. This book is somewhat similar to the movie series Narcos and I will love to know more about it. Wonderful review.

A person's environment has a way of influencing the person either negatively or positively. Juan's upbringing and environment had a negative impact on him. Thanks for an insightful review.

I can rate the suffering Juan as a kid that started taking care of the family at a tender age. I learn a lot from this story. The author did a fantastic job. Good job.
