Very thorough review. A fictional memoir of a 15 year old trying to survive and thrive through following orders from the gang of thugs who forcefully recruited him to do their biding is not for me. I did download the book and read the first couple of chapters, but I won't be reading any more. Books about wars are just not something that I read.

The fictional memoir seems like an eye-opener about the harrowing nightmares and realities of child soldiers in a war-stricken society. Congratulations on Book of the Day!

It is fantastic to create a fictitious novel about a reality that for many individuals included so many gloomy days that it was tough to hold out hope for a better tomorrow. This novel addresses difficult subjects, but at its core, it is a tale of optimism and tenacity. Congrats on botd!

I'm glad to know that this story has a happy ending because what Lemba went through as a child soldier sounds scary.

Despite having a sad background, Lemba’s story seems to be full of hope and new discoveries. I would love to read this fictional memoir. Thanks for a detailed review!

The cases of child soldiers being used to prosecute terrorism is common in Africa. Today's book of the day is a fictionalized memoir about family, survival and war. Congrats on being the #BOTD!

I like this book's focus on the ill effects of an African war. It's quite disheartening that a 15 year (Lemba Adula) could be used as a child soldier. Great review.

Following this well-written review, I gained a complete insight into the story. It compelled me to think from the terrorist's perspective.
I can't imagine what it would be for Lemba to watch his dreams fissile out before him.
Congrats to the author.

Standing tall in the face of daunting challenges is a skill of the brave. I find it interesting that a 15 year old would do this and consider best options for his family in the face of danger. I'd love to see how this story unfolds. Thanks for your review.

Sounds like an interesting and heartbreaking story to see the struggle of children who are weaponized for war even though they want so bad to be good

This is a fictional memoir. David H. Rothman seems to have done his research well on the plight of Congolese people and their child soldiers and written this well. Your review is equally well written. Congratulations on the BOTD!

An intriguing and suspenseful book. It is nice to see how the author seems to have documented facts about the Congo culture very well to express details in the story. I am interested to know what happens to Lemba and if his ideals change during the story. Thanks for sharing this detailed review.
