I had a different idea of this book (let's say I judged it from its cover), and your review showed me what this story is really about. Many thanks for highlighting the main aspects, especially the negative ones. Now I have a clearer picture.

Thank you for the great review! I read a sample and was a smidge turned off by Raoul's admiration of the receptionist. It felt a bit icky. I love getting a closer look at the life of a garbage person, though. That's very interesting. Congrats to the author on BOTD.

Although detective novels may not be quite to my interest, I can definitely see some of my friends picking up this book and enjoying it. I'll be sure to grab them a copy for the holidays!

I was already getting interested in the plot based on the opening lines of your review. But I lost interest the moment you mentioned the protagonist solving the crime easily.

Your review was objective.

I read a couple chapters and your review. Not sure that I will finish but I probably will, just to find out who killed the CEO and why. Thanks for the enlightening review and congrats to the author for BOTD honors.

I appreciate this review. It is very informative and states what was disappointing in the book. It is interesting to see another of the author's books and it appears like a fascinating new adventure. It is also interesting that the author brought in the garbage collector's role in the story. Look forward to reading the book.

My first book selection as I joined OBC today.
I am sorry to post such a review; I could not read past page 46. The content, character, dialog, environment, and time frame did not follow any order - the author forces his readers into a massive leap of faith with unrealistic circumstances and particulars of his characters.

I have never known anyone to become hired in a job collecting trash, let alone the CIA in such a fashion of simply showing up at the employment office and asking to be hired.

We are asked to believe Hanks' very first assignment is a case that may involve being shot. Then he finds from Julio this is now a murder case.

Also - the CIA are some of the most professional people. They do not express themselves, nor do they describe Mexican, Hispanic surroundings and the people he meets in San Antonio, in such a bigotry fashion. I worked in San Antonio - it barely resembles what was described. And, I would never categorize the open bigotry unless I was developing a character with such a seeded upbringing and past that is mostly related to racism or fascism.

I have sampled this book and I agree with the reviewer that the book respectfully described the job of a trash collector and exposes class differences and food wasting. I also liked the dialogue of Raoul with Hubert, his supervisor, about the reasons for the job they were doing and the extent of their ambitions. I think I will be thrilled with this book, regardless of the flipsides mentioned in the review - those are not disappointing for what I am concerned - for example, I can live without avidly described stench in the landfill :).

Murder in a Garbage is a griping tale of disgruntled laborers. The CEO was found dead in a garbage. Could it be the underpaid over worked employees or a jealous wife? Read on to find out. Thanks for the review.

I love murder mystery books. The plot sounds intriguing and I’d love to read it and find out who killed the CEO and why along with all the interesting mysteries this book offers.

I agree with the review, my favorite character is the trash collector, Raoul. He’s so laid back, non-chalant about life and being a trash collector. He definitely doesn’t look at the world like most, nor like a trash collector. The several twists in the book keep the reader curious. A fun read.

I have some questions after reading this review. What is the tie-in with the garbage man and the entire weapons theft other than the found the CEO in the garbage? I appreciate not giving too much away, but it would have been good to have a little more information. I also wonder if sometimes it's more a matter of reading preferences. Some books are really good as a "slow burn." I might read this to see if I get the same feelings after reading this book.

Never seen a book portraying a trash collector, and it's nice that the author goes into social class differences and speaks about wasting food which is an important issue with so much world hunger.
