Not exactly 'books,' but if you like mystery and adventure you might go to the Internet Archive and download all 53 radio episodes of 'Bold Venture,' starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Ever been out camping at night and wanted good entertainment but had no television available? There you go...and you can enjoy the story (in the dark even) without having to keep your eyes glued to a screen. When I go camping, I will read off and on during the day, but when nighttime comes it's Old Time Radio. If you're a sci-fi fan download the Dimension X series or X Minus One. It really works well when you plug your iPod into one of those two-speaker boom boxes they have nowadays. Power? Get a 12-volt to 120v converter and hook it up to a spare car (good) or marine (much better) battery. No noise, no interference. It will run that machine for days. For the long-term trips, simply charge up the battery from your car with jumper cables or by switching out and running the car for a while. 8)

I have recently started reading the crime thrillers by Mo Hayder. She is fantastic. Some of her books revolve around Jack Cafferty (British investigator), while others are standalones. The books always contain numerous twists that I never see coming. Her most recent, "Wolf" is a home invasion gone horribly, horribly wrong. I have to say, I truly did not see the ending coming!

The Alex Cross series by James Patterson,is a very good crime series. I have read all the books in the series so far. I just finished reading The Last Man by Vince Flynn. This book is 10·th book of the Mitch Rapp series. I have the entire series . I still have two more books to read before i complete the series. Mitch Rapp is a character created by the writter Vince Flynn, i recommend this series,i give it 5 stars. Mitch Rapp is a CIA assassin that is fighting the war on terror, he answers to no one but the director of the CIA and the President of the United States. The books are so good,i would stay up all night just to read my book. I love these books. If you havent read a Vince Flynn novel yet i recommend you pick one up and get to meet Mitch Rapp.

I have to post here, this is where my heart is :) - I just finished reading the book Justice For Sarah by Erica Spindler. Wow, very good book. I couldn't put it down, it kept you guessing and every time you turned the page you thought that you had it all figired out but in fact you were absolutely wrong! So many characters and so many of them had a piece of the "pie". Excellent book, great light reading not too heavy but quite bloody. Best $7.00 at Wal Mart I have spent in a long time :)

Oh I have to post about my favorite Crime Thriller author of all time. Cody McFayden, the best series I have read in a very long time. Has anyone else read the series? It is not a new release by any means. Can't wait to hear what you thought of it.

I second the recommendation for Sue Grafton books. The Plum series is a laugh out loud hilarious mystery. Also James Patterson puts out some great stuff. I love reading his mysteries, they keep me on the edge of my seat. Usually I find myself losing sleep or putting off housework to finish up one if their books! Ruth Rendell is another author I enjoy.

I am a lifelong fan of sci fi / fantasy but just started writing a thriller with some light sci fi elements. I'd like to do some thriller reading but the sheer volume of authors and titles is daunting. Can anyone give me a run down of popular authors and what they are known for? I'm not looking for crime fiction but rather when a non-professional gets wrapped up in a mystery, conspiracy, etc.

For example (just made it up):

Mr. Brown: characters are often professors that stumble on hidden plots to take over the world, light supernatural components, lots of twists and unexpected reveals, prose is often regarded as simple/poor, characters fairly flat and undetailed -- relies heavily on the story hook, puzzles, and 'what's next'

Ms. Red: variety of everyman/woman protagonists (author, scientists, business owner), humor usual big component of main character, more flowery language than many thriller writers, characters usual well fleshed out, twists not that inventive but gets away with it because of strong characters

Thanks for your help!

This writer is one of the greatest writers today.

The HIT ,the will Robie ,Jessica Reel series.book 2
By David Baldacci . I just finished reading the second book in this series and I'm running to Barnes and noble to pick up book 3 in the series called THE TAloRGET its been in stores maybe 4 months. I love this series, it's just one surprise after another.the suspense is incredible. The action in the story is like being inside of a movie. I was up late at night because i could not go to sleep without knowing what Jessica Reel would do next. This book is impossible to put down. The pages just keep turning ,once you get into the story. This series is awesome. David Baldacci is a master story teller.

Stephen King & Dean Koontz have great books from the Horror genre. I have read many of Agatha Christie & Hercule Poirot books for the Mystery genre that are great. Ann Rule is also a great author for the True Crime genre. I am sure I have read John Grisham novels although none in particular come to mind, but he is the author I would recommend if I were asked as a Thriller. More particular a Legal Thriller.
