Yes, I felt like I was reading an Agatha Christie novel, it was personable, a comfortable and gentle read, and in the best ‘set in Cornwall’ tradition. This is one of those books that would be read comfortably in a weekend.

The plot seems to combine elements that heighten curiosity. Murder, memory loss, and ghosts all appear to be interwoven into the story to build up the tension. Humor and romance seem to bring balance to the suspense.

Hattie Vavaseur is a delightful journey back to the 1920s with a perfect blend of mystery, humor, and paranormal elements. Hattie’s evolution from a snobbish, confused elderly woman to a more self-aware and empathetic character is compelling and well-crafted.

This review makes Hattie Vavaseur sound compelling with its blend of mystery, paranormal elements, and humor. The character development and vivid 1920s Cornwall setting intrigue me, especially Hattie’s journey and Vamelda’s quirks. I appreciate the descriptive prose and twists.

The eclectic cast of characters, each with their own intriguing backstory and development, adds depth to the narrative. The mysterious master of the house and the assortment of ghosts provide a fascinating backdrop to Hattie’s quest for her lost memories.

The novel’s examination of the supernatural as a means of uncovering hidden truths is compelling. The ghosts not only serve as eerie elements but also as crucial players in helping Hattie piece together her forgotten history.

"Hattie Vavaseur" by M. Rebecca Wildsmith sounds fascinating! The mix of mystery, romance, and paranormal elements set in 1920s Cornwall is intriguing. Following Hattie as she navigates her memory loss and uncovers secrets with a quirky psychic adds depth and excitement. Nice review! This sounds like the perfect setup for horror or a psychological thriller. The memory loss trope has been used in all sorts of ways, but it can be particularly suspenseful in such a scenario as this one.
Although it is listed in the C/T/M/H genre, romance and paranormal aspects are also incorporated.
I actually wouldn’t have expected romance from this, but thinking about it now, I can see how it could fit into the plot.
There is an eclectic cast of characters, and their development is superb. Hattie is a snob at the beginning but evolves as the story goes along. The belligerent and mysterious “master of the house” also begins to change as the tale progresses.

I’m glad to hear it! Superb character development is always a win!

The book sounds really engaging with lots of twists and turns mixed with romance and paranormal elements. I wonder what secrets can an elderly woman have in her lost memories that called forth all the events in the book. Cpongratulations on becoming BOTD!
