The amount of knowledge Jack Winnick has about the intricacies and nuances of the Middle East conflicts is mind-blowing.I appreciated the sophisticated plot, in which Lara and Uri find themselves at the center of a complex plan against the USA and Israel. I'm not surprised to see that Jack Winnick is described as a Middle East scholar, as he shows the different positions that exist in Arab countries, which are sometimes their own worst enemies. He skillfully depicts those complexities without slowing down the pace too much by adding details here and there and through quick conversations.
It's to be expected from such an Americentric book series, but I found your comment super interesting. One thing I didn't appreciate about this novel is the negative depiction of the European Union, seen as weak in its position towards Israel and terrorist threats. A complete explanation would be longer than the actual review, so I'll just point out that strong statements of support for Israel came from European countries after the most recent attacks suffered by the Jewish country. In my opinion, support doesn't only mean supplying weapons.
Thanks!

You did a great review of Devil Among Us. It is interesting you pointed out that Jack Winnick is a Middle East Scholar. I am in the midst of reading another book by Jack Winnick entitled Waterworks . It appears to me that Winnick takes time to detail Middle Eastern culture, society, and foods. This makes the story realistic and it feels like you are actually there.
Thank you for mentioning that Devil Among Us is a stand-alone story. I tend to hesitate to read books that are connected to one another.
I respect you for having disagreed with the author regarding his position on the European Union's stance vis-a-vis Israel at the time that you wrote this review.
Have a great day.

Devils Among Us is the title of Jack Winnick's second book in the Lara and Uri series. Investigation into a synagogue suicide explosion in New York that left hundreds dead points to members of a Jewish family as the culprits. There is a lot of action in the story, with Lara and Uri constantly risking their lives to uncover a terrorist plan involving other radicals. The review is well-written and comprehensive.
