The second novel in Jack Winnick's Lara and Uri series is titled Devil Among Us. The inquiry into a suicide explosion at a synagogue in New York that claimed hundreds of lives suggests that a Jewish family's members are the perpetrators. The narrative is action-packed, with Lara and Uri frequently putting their lives in danger as they work to expose a terrorist plot involving numerous radicals. The review is written properly and is fully detailed.Congratulations on BOTD to the author. :techie-reference:

The fact that the novel can be read as a standalone is a positive point for readers who might be new to the series. Additionally, your comments on the development of the characters' personal relationships without being overly cheesy provide valuable information for those who enjoy a balance of action and character dynamics.

The review piqued my interest with its intriguing portrayal. The narrative, commencing with a suicide bombing and the subsequent investigation led by Lara and Uri, has sparked my curiosity to delve into the book. I have a penchant for espionage thrillers, and the prospect of unraveling mysteries alongside the developing relationship between Lara and Uri imbued with a touch of romance, enhances the overall appeal. I eagerly anticipate the read, particularly intrigued by the incorporation of plots involving nations.

Suicide bombers blowing up a church and causing hundreds of deaths, is a really shocking event. The way that terrorists infiltrate innocent communities is very scary. Intrigue and adventure are great components of a good novel. Thank you for the great review.

Congratulations on being the BOTD once again. It is an action thriller and indeed Laura and Uri have done a good job. It has depicted the live events of Israel and makes the reader to get into the imaginary events taking place in that part of the world being a fiction story. My cudos once again for being BOTD.

This book, "Devil Among Us" by Jack Winnick, is the second book he has written in this series but still can be read as a standalone. It is almost unimaginable that going to church or in this case synagogue, isn't safe. The explosion in this synagogue rocks this community because it turns out one of its own members was a terrorist. Before I read this book. I am going to read the first book, "East Wind" to get the beginning story of Lara and Uri who are the investigators sent in to find out what happened plus a love story between them evolves. I am looking forward to reading this series.

I appreciated the sophisticated plot, in which Lara and Uri find themselves at the center of a complex plan against the USA and Israel. I'm not surprised to see that Jack Winnick is described as a Middle East scholar, as he shows the different positions that exist in Arab countries, which are sometimes their own worst enemies. He skillfully depicts those complexities without slowing down the pace too much by adding details here and there and through quick conversations.
The amount of knowledge Jack Winnick has about the intricacies and nuances of the Middle East conflicts is mind-blowing.
One thing I didn't appreciate about this novel is the negative depiction of the European Union, seen as weak in its position towards Israel and terrorist threats. A complete explanation would be longer than the actual review, so I'll just point out that strong statements of support for Israel came from European countries after the most recent attacks suffered by the Jewish country. In my opinion, support doesn't only mean supplying weapons.
It's to be expected from such an Americentric book series, but I found your comment super interesting.

Thanks!

The review of "Devil Among Us" by Jack Winnick praises the novel's action-packed narrative, intricate plot, and the evolution of characters Lara and Uri. The reviewer appreciates Winnick's Middle East expertise, portraying the complexities of geopolitical relationships. However, they express dissatisfaction with the negative portrayal of the European Union, citing recent support for Israel. Despite this, the reviewer gives the novel a 5-star rating, recommending it for mature readers who enjoy international spy thrillers with complex, well-developed plots.

Stories about terror threats never cease to amaze me. After reading the review Iam intrigued to read it. Although it can be read as a stand alone story would like to read book one first before proceeding to the others. Congrats on BOTD.

Hi NetMassimo,

You did a great review of Devil Among Us. It is interesting you pointed out that Jack Winnick is a Middle East Scholar. I am in the midst of reading another book by Jack Winnick entitled Waterworks . It appears to me that Winnick takes time to detail Middle Eastern culture, society, and foods. This makes the story realistic and it feels like you are actually there.

Thank you for mentioning that Devil Among Us is a stand-alone story. I tend to hesitate to read books that are connected to one another.

I respect you for having disagreed with the author regarding his position on the European Union's stance vis-a-vis Israel at the time that you wrote this review.

Have a great day.

Devils Among Us is the title of Jack Winnick's second book in the Lara and Uri series. Investigation into a synagogue suicide explosion in New York that left hundreds dead points to members of a Jewish family as the culprits. There is a lot of action in the story, with Lara and Uri constantly risking their lives to uncover a terrorist plan involving other radicals. The review is well-written and comprehensive.
