This book sounds very interesting! I hope Salty and Sylvia could come to terms with their pasts. it would be a terrible thing for both of them that Salty killed Sylvia's mother and left Sylvia without her mom. I am adding this one to my want-to-read list! Thank you for a fabulous review!

Seems to call to me with its crime, mystery, and detective vibes. The review is wonderfully written and one would want to know why a man would kill his wife and want to leave everything behind.

Im really excited for the part when both, the daughter and the father, have to confront the truth. What will they do after the confrontation? Will the father ask for forgiveness, or try to justify himself? Or will he just run away like in past? Will the daughter be able to forgive him and ask for a reason? Or will she burst with anger?

Some mistakes in life are surely not reversible. The killing of his wife will definitely haunt Salty and affect his relationship with his daughter, Sylvia.
I would really love to know how he soldiered on with his life.
Thanks for the great review.
Congrats on the BOTD!

I'm still imagining that expensive mistake that could have led to the death of Saltzmanous wife. I wish to unravel the mysteries behind the plot in this book. More so, a lot has been said about the author's writing prowess that I would like to experience. Congrats on being the #BOTD!

This interesting and unique novel explores the complex relationship between a father and daughter that is strained by tragedy and shame. The book takes readers on a rather character-driven journey that they are bound to remember for a long time. Will the past mistakes of the father finally catch up with him?

I knew Allan Davis understood his assignment once you called him a master of subtlety. The plot is a bit cliché in my opinion, but I guess the fact that the novel is more character driven than plot driven saves the story.

I don’t really enjoy a lot of fiction about crime. This book sounds like it’s told masterfully though, so I may at least give it a glimpse.

Character driven novels always fascinate me, and the close relation of Salty and Sylvia makes for a great story given how the mistake Salty made ruined both their lives. Thank you for the review!

Based on the review, it sounds like these characters are what makes the story so enjoyable. Having few, but strong, characters is an excellent choice in my opinion. It stops readers from feeling completely lost on who is doing what and provides an anchor to the story.

I enjoyed your review because of the analysis of Davis’ book as a proper literary fiction. It's better to have a few characters – as you say is the case here – and develop them holistically than to have many superficial ones.

Tragedy and resultant shame will always make a story, adding in time and fate should make that story a good read. Having read the first couple of chapters I agree with the review that the characters are strong and well formed. This will allow them to develop with the story and is enough for me to be interested in reading the complete book. Thanks for the review
