The first-person narrative to me sometimes takes away from the engagement of the story, but from the review and sample it's a nice book to read especially if you are into mystery and thriller.

A book with "rich thread of comedy running through" it is a winner for me anytime! I also appreciate the prevalence of dialogue and staccato sentences for a fast-moving plot. I'd previously sampled a book by this author and had enjoyed his flow and writing style. Looking forward to checking this one out! Thanks for the review.

I'd love to read a British mystery novel full of tension and suspense. Philip's first-person narration seems to be witty and humorous, so I'll be adding this book to my reading list. Thanks for a wonderful review!

I truly love mystery novels and I expect that Shifting Sands will be no different. The author's style of writing pulls the reader into his story. This is all the more so as the book is written in the first person. One of the main characters in the book is also a normal journalist who will definitely resonate with the reader as he is quite the "everyday" type of person.

There is a lot of excitement and twists and turns in this novel which will surely keep the reader deeply engaged from the beginning to the end. :geek2: :geek2:

I've really been enjoying mystery-thrillers lately, so I might give this book a try. The plot doesn't seem completely unique but with a good author, it could be an amazing read. The added humor sounds great also. Thank you for the review.

Reading your review I congratulate myself for deciding to review the book myself. Also, a nice surprise was to find out that there was going to be comedy there, along with the mystery.
What I sort of disagree with you on is when you say that the book is not perfect because of "the use of a first-person narrator". It is true that this way "we only get to experience events through Philip’s eyes", but it does not necessarily mean that "the thoughts and feelings of other characters are left unexplored". In fact what we do in real life is just that, interpret the thoughts and feelings of the others by what we see or are told. Maybe the other characters of the novel remain largely undeveloped, and this may be a flaw of the author for not paying enough attention to them, but it is not a result of the book being written in the first person - my opinion.

I am looking forward to reading this book. Your description of the team Philip has by his side is revealing the humor in the book, which is ever a strong point for me.

This sounds like a great mystery-thriller and I am delighted that there are some elements of comedy in the book. It sounds like Phillip's character is well-developed and I like that the book not only focuses on the story is he pursuing, but also delves into his personal life enough to give the reader some variety. Thanks for the excellent review.

Shifting Sands~is a Novel Mistery Thriller Book of Barry Litherland billed as a mysterious-thriller, set in Sefton in the north-west of England. The Book is of British English spelling and of British spoken words. It overlooks the rich thread of comedy running through the story. The tale was told in the first-person from Phillip's perspective.

The reality of our experiences in a world with a growing capacity to create new virtual realities, is the issue that sits at the heart of the story. More unfolding details follows.

I wasn't sure about this one, but I like that comedy is threaded throughout this mystery-thriller novel. I look forward to reading it. Great review!
