This is a story that focuses on the healthcare system, especially on healthcare policy, following a series of intertwined stories. The story also features interactions with the Russian mafia, which creates additional suspense and entertainment value.

I have watched medical shows but could not imagine reading it. The reviewer has given the book a 5/5 rating but from the review itself I don't think I would enjoy the book.

The third part of a quite interesting series by Greg Vigdor and I hope he won't stop on this one, because I have read medical dramas, thrillers and lot of other genres, but these are the first books in my experience that are based on real issues in the healthcare system. It shows that the author indeed knows what he writes about from the inside of the problem, and while the storyline is engaging and entertaining, it also educates readers on the actual state of matters. Congratulations on BOTD!

I'm intrigued to learn more about the American healthcare system and will look into reading the rest of the book series if this book impresses me. Thank you for the review.

The question at the end gave me chills - how indeed can one decide who deserves most care when facing life-threatening diseases? Interesting that the author uses his background in hospital administration to give accurate information about the practices in health care. As a non American, I am sure that will also be eye opening to read how it works in the US and which inconsistencies there are.

The who-decides-who-gets-benefits question is something I never thought of. Excited to see how this book turns complex healthcare debates into something emotional and personal. I might want to check out the first book first though!

The health sector is vital to every nation, and the government has an important role to play to ensure the health of their people. With this book throwing more light on health policies, I do hope the government does better.

"Death Panels" by Greg Vigdor is a fictional story about Vigdor’s knowledge gained from years of working in hospital administration. The story began by following Nancy Jones, a woman suffering from Long Covid and was being kept in a facility for the terminally ill. Their stories intertwine in this book which is the 3rd book in the Irv Tinsley Health Policy Detective Series. Vigdor included factual information and his solution on how to right the wrongs of our failing healthcare system. The profits from this book go to a non-profit health foundation and Vigdor is the volunteer president of that organization.
The question raised by the official reviewer is so relevant to the recent Great Beautiful Bill passed by the Republican House members and the Republican Senators. “: How do we, as a society, determine who gets life-serving benefits?” One needs to read the book to learn the answer to this question. Vigdor explores lifesaving medical discoveries. Who should get them? Who should just die? How do we confront these questions of life and death, for ourselves, our loved ones, and society? It looks like the Trump bill will kill off many in our senior population. By reducing Medicaid by more than $1 trillion and this will cause rural hospitals throughout the U.S. to close and nursing homes that have 67% of their residents on Medicaid will undoubtedly close and the residents will have no were to go. The Nancy Jones part of the story was so detailed that I could visualize her hiding the narcotics the nurses were feeding her while she suffered from long covid. Irv Tinsley had also suffered from Covid as a result of a murderer injecting a Covid cocktail into his butt and fortunately he recovered and really determined to improve the health care system. We could use a real Irv Tinsley today to fight for the rights of people in the U.S. I highly recommend this book.

It must have been scary for Nancy Jones to wake up from a coma and find herself in a "medical prison," especially with no idea how she got there or how to get out. Thanks for the review!

:) It is a smart and intense thriller that dives me into a deep healthcare system. As the story has two main characters and their paths cross, it's interesting to know about all the life, death and who gets to decide for people who needs medical care. These chaos and suspense keep us readers grounded towards the story. It was giving feel from start that it's enough mysterious, but character's personal struggles was making me care about them. It is a great choice but emotional people cannot survive reading it for long periods of days.
