I've read one of Gillams's books in this series, and from the sections that I read in this book, I'm certain that it's fantastic. I don't particularly enjoy reading books in a series out of sequence, but I have a sneaky suspicion that I'll be binging on the entire series this summer. Congratulations to the author on receiving BOTD!

I like that you noticed the symbolism in the book. The fact that the characters symbolize social issues/events makes strong writing skills. Thanks for your review!

Sounds like a story that encompasses major events which occurred in 2020 and wraps it up in a cute tale of social drama. I'm sure Mrs Bryant would appreciate this book should she get a hold of it. I'm not a huge fan of basketball myself, but I'm sure I'd learn a thing or two from Hilary's determination to balance a career with family life. Thanks for the glowing review.

The novel consists of 54 chapters broken into three parts. At the beginning of each chapter, there is a quote. Some of these lines were from a satirical dictionary attributed to Ambrose Bierce, an ancestor of the protagonist Charlie. The other quotes were from a wide variety of authors, educators, and performers. I looked forward to these passages and was pleased when I recognized the source. Often the names were unfamiliar, and I was inspired to research them. This was my favorite part of reading the book. I was introduced to a variety of professors, environmentalists and social workers. This exercise proved to be both entertaining and educational. I applaud the author for her diligence in providing the perfect quote for each chapter.
I find this to be one of the most enriching aspects of literature: how some books open the door to other book or spark your curiosity to look into other topics.
House of Hoops is the fourth book in the Hillary Broome series. I have not read the earlier books but had no difficulty reading the last one first.
Oh, you should read the preceding novels. House of Eire was one of the best books I've read!
Thank you for a great, analytical review!

How very perceptive of the author for making that statement. This sounds like a great book about family and personal relationships. From the sounds of it, readers who are fans of basketball will enjoy reading this novel. Thanks for the lovely review.

This fourth book in the Hillary Broome series sounds like a riveting read. I like it that "the chapters flow smoothly, and the transitions between the two storylines are easy to follow." Also, it's likable that the book involves little profanity and no erotic content. However, I'm not a fan of this genre. Otherwise, congrats on the BOTD.

Unfortunately, I will have to skip this one, because at the moment I have no desire to get involved with any social problems. Even if they are printed in the book and pure fiction, still not my cup of tea currently. Maybe later, but now the only thing I can do is offer my congratulations with BOTD!

Both protagonists in the novel seem like fascinating characters with a sense of conviction in their goals. I would like to know how their objectives pan out.

Excellent review! I definitely want to read this one!

Dedicated to Gianna Bryant, today's BOTD is Book 4 in a crime mystery series that can easily be read as a standalone. With basketball being the backdrop of this novel, fans of the sport will love it. In addition, those who like books about community, social issues, and the transition into adulthood with strong female characters are sure to also be engaged. Thank you again for the awesome review! :-)
