Beautiful review. Your sincere description of the book tells us what to expect while carefully avoiding any spoilers too. Thanks for informing us about the somewhat grotesque themes of the book, but about the probability of Africans being on the defensive, I highly disagree with you. Most of what is described is reality so there is no use denying it. I am African and I can relate.

An amazing supernatural story book
"Making Monsters" by AJ Parnell & Chuck Duncan, which follows a young boy, Vander Masozi, who finds a reprieve in supernatural force after having a difficult life.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

Vander struggles with taking care of his parents at such an early age. I also love that the book is set in Africa. The storyline is interesting but I will however not be reading it

Vander’s life must be a real struggle. I can’t even imagine how he coped with living a scary life because of his parents and still seeing scary things.

This seems like a coming-of-age adventurous story of a boy which also highlights real life issues of women. I am definitely picking it up tonight. Thank you for the informative review.

A boy who comes from an abusive home, struggling with super natural powers and trying to understand himself and what to do with the powers... Excellent combination. I can already say that this book is enjoyable. Thank you for the review.

With racism, domestic abuse, alcoholism, and impoverished living conditions, this little boy was clearly up against a lot. I can see how a supernatural gift might offer a child a much-needed perspective of hope in such trying times. Thank you for your analysis of such a multilayered book.

I don't think this is a book for me. Thank you for your review. I read the sample, and it seemed well written. Thank you for giving additional info on the plot.

I'm intrigued by your comment that the reader is faced with "rationalizing the evil in a person with the good that can be found in them." It sounds like you understand this book. Thanks for the excellent review!

This comes across as a thought-provoking read, but I'm going to have to skip it due to the violence and abuse Vander experiences. I don't think I'd be able to handle it. Thank you for the honest review!

This book's subject may be a little too grim for me, so I'll pass. However, I am confident that many other readers will find it intriguing. Thank you for the review!!

I love a good mystery book, though this may be a bit too dark for me. Vander has a lot on his plate despite his tender age and the supernatural only add to his plate. Must be an intriguing story. Congratulations on the BOTD.

This book's cover piques my interest, but the blurb puts me on the fence. I'm still curious about this book, but a bit less so. I think that I'll still read a few pages and see if this book pulls me in before I make a final judgment call. Thanks for the interesting review.

Speechless! I'm not a fan of reading scary books but at the same time, I could imagine the ordeals of the young boy trying to survive and feed his family. Nice review.

Vander seems to be living a nightmare, and this novel is going to be one memorable but tough read.
