It is an often pretty sight for me, to see or read about an intelligent and resilient female forensic investigator. This would easily pass as a favorite read, as I love investigative stories and would love to know how Tess solved the massacre mystery.

I've not experienced Gothic mystery, but this one sounds intriguing. The tempered pace and character development might make this a good one to cut my teeth on. Thank you!

A book of Gothic fiction with twists and turns is amazing. I must commend the effort and doggedness of Tess in handling the case that was before her. This would definitely make a good read for me.

Intriguing, enticing and all around perfect choice of book for me. Doubly so because it is not only my most favorite mixed genres, but because it is gothic mystery. I always loved Edgar Allan Poe and really hope this bok won't disappoint my expectations!

A policewoman on a Harley, almost getting herself killed while solving a masacre case? That is for sure gothic mystery material, and also comics or movie.
I almost envie you for reviewing it, a perfect review.
Thank you!

I'm not into gothic fiction, but your excellent review makes this book sound very appealing! I think it is cool that Tess has a Harley too! I am curious if she is able to solve the crime of the fourteen missing teens. Thanks for a wonderful review!

Excellent job on reflecting the mystery of this story!! Tess seems like a formidable character that keeps readers curious about unraveling the case. A Harley-driving detective adds an interesting aspect to her character. I enjoyed your review.

I got curious about the town's history and myth, what Tess found out about them, and how they relate to the case she was assigned to. It is interesting how local history and myth are used as sources of the mystery in suspense stories. It somehow keeps the history alive in the modern setting.

Thank you for the review.

I have only read the sample and so far, I agree with Adedayo in that I imagine that I also would not want the story to end. One strange thing I found, whether the author intentionally did this or not, was that the locals did not seem too enthused about the case, but yet, it was that particular case that they chose for her to work on. The review ended right as they were explaining the fires - not very nice to cut the sample off right there! Cliffhanger... I am glad to hear that she solves the case - interesting that the officers seem to follow a "rule" so-to-speak: if the case doesn't seem to grab you or if nothing stands out, then there's no reason to investigate. Almost as if fate wanted Tess to solve it. Weird... A policewoman with an espresso maker and who is also eco-conscious - the Harley and the VW...interesting mix!

A thriller with a great pace is always a book I tend to enjoy. I especially like when the author makes the conversations to be just the right length and timing. The suspense of this #BOTD makes this a must-read for me. Great review!
