Thanks for a great review. Tonnys story is sad but also worth considering. I'd like to know whether he earned his millions, and whether ditching college was a wise decision in his case.

I can't fathom the reason why alot of parents refuse to believe their kids when they say they are molested. Please,I urge parents to listen to their kids and keep an eye on them. Thank you for the honest review.

This seems like a deep story, and I really feel for Tommy. It's important to remember not to judge people just because of how they make their living because you never know how they ended up where they are. Thank you for this insightful review.

In Rush's novel, a troubled marijuana dealer navigates a perilous life straddling both Colombia and the United States. Tommy Logan, a 24-year-old criminal, frequently finds himself entangled in precarious situations, with his college sweetheart, Sandy Carlton, serving as his sole source of stability. Amidst blunders from his underlings in the drug trade and frequent run-ins with the police, Tommy's life takes a more complicated turn when he becomes involved with Sandy's family friend, the motorcycle-loving drug kingpin, Harry Burr.

Together with Harry, Tommy embarks on drug deals in Tampa, Florida, and cocaine smuggling operations into San Juan, Puerto Rico. However, Harry's arrest for a casino robbery he didn't commit leaves Tommy grappling with mounting challenges. Meanwhile, Tommy must also confront the haunting memory of a long-ago rape perpetrated by a Catholic school priest and his family's inaction when they learned of the abuse. When he discovers Harry's involvement in sexual trafficking of a girl named Kippi, whom he derogatorily calls "a whore in training," Tommy vows to deliver justice. As he continues their drug operation, he is blindsided by the murder of his longtime associate, Sal.

Subsequently, Tommy and Harry enlist the services of dentist Ollie Bentley to smuggle cocaine to Bogotá. However, their journey takes a perilous turn when they encounter Colombian soldiers and face a new set of challenges. Throughout this gritty narrative, Rush employs a somewhat pulpy prose style that incorporates elements of the crime genre. Yet, this style aptly captures the harsh reality of the characters' world, and the main characters themselves prove to be intriguing and occasionally endearing. Despite their moral flaws, many readers will find themselves sympathizing with Tommy, especially as he confronts an unexpected setup while preparing to exit the criminal life. "A dark but lively and gratifying gangster drama".

"Young Americans" by Peter S. Rush is the story of Tommy in his early twenties. While growing up, he was molested and the desire to become independent appeared early in him. The character development in the book is outstanding and the book itself is professionally edited.

Definitely not my cup of tea with this awful topic raised in the story. The simple thought that people exist who are capable of committing atrocities to kids is unbearable. It is a crime against nature itself and should be punished much harsher since it hurts not only the body, but manages the very souls.

It's interesting how the author has positioned the protagonist's decision to drop out of university as a turning point in his life. It's clear that this was a pivotal moment for Tommy and has huge implications for the rest of the story. I'm also intrigued by the mention of Tommy's older brother, Steve. It seems like he could be an important character in the story, perhaps offering a contrast to Tommy's character.
