Re: Official Review: Altered Reality by Joel Knox

Post by Stundey1 »

Every helpless child with a superhuman ability is always caught up in between two options: the good side and the bad side. While most of them need a mentor (like James Hyde) to put them through on how to harness their ability for good use on the good side, some (like Samuel Barkley) are pushed to the other side of the options, but much worse can still be averted with some trials from their older kind. People like James Hyde need to do this to save them from "The Man" who is ready to exploit them.

I really want to read "Altered Reality" by Joel Knox before it becomes a movie :techie-studyingbrown: now that I just read your review because I always want to see where it ends. This is why I still watch Avengers.

Thank you for the wonderful and thorough review of this book. I absolutely love your descriptive writing! It sounds like a really great book and I would love to read it, unfortunately, I'm going to have to pass on this one as I am just not into all the gore! So, I thank you for saving me from spending money on a book I would abandon. W

Your review is excellent. This is a mixed genre book, and seems to have a lot of violence. I think I shall keep away from it.

Your description of the book was wonderful to read! This book sounds exciting. As soon as I started reading the sample, I was catapulted into the scene where James gets past the guards and unleashes the Alter. I agree with you, I can definitely see this book becoming a huge blockbuster hit!

Great review!

From a sampling, this was an interesting story about characters with superhuman powers and a crime/mystery plot. If you like superheros and mysteries/thrillers, then this is worth a second look. Well done.

I thought the sample pages were well written on this one, but I was wondering how graphic this one gets. I am so glad you mentioned in your review the level of violence. I don’t care for books that have a lot of that in them, so I appreciate you mentioning this so I can make a better decision about passing this one up. It’s hard to tell in the sample at times how bad it will get. Thanks for the great insight to this. I kept thinking of the Incredible Hulk as well.
Everything happens for a reason...

The idea of an "Alter" being a super hero version of the characters is fascinating. Thank you for a great review!

Sounds like a well-written and exciting read! I personally do not like reading about mutants/supernatural abilities, and I avoid too much gore, so I will skip this one.

I too have read a few "whodunnit" books where the culprit is revealed early on, but also have been able to appreciate the other "pieces to the puzzle". Your review is very well written!

The comparison to Justice League, Xmen, and Avengers has me very intrigued and excited! I'm also a fan of series where the books can stand alone.
The book sounds like a real page turner!

Supernatural thrillers are quite intriguing for fans of this genre. I am afraid the gore is a bit of a turn off for me. Thank you for the insightful review.

Although I haven't read the first book in this series, your review and the sample from the second book definitely has my curiosity piqued. I am not bothered by the graphic violence but don't think it should be the meat of the story. I did like how the characters were developed enough to seem like real average everyday people(their Alters notwithstanding). Have added both books to my to be read shelf.

"Altered Reality" by Joel Knox sounds interesting and at the same time, full of some scenes that are the least of my favourites. I do not like to read about body dismemberment by the altar or gunshots and knife fights. It will leave my mind to unnecessary imagination.
