The author does an excellent job in taking us back in time. The time period in which the book is set is well depicted through the clothing, transportation modes, technology, and language used and described in the book. It is so well depicted, that it fades seamlessly into the background, creating the perfect backdrop for a believable story to unfold without distracting the reader.
I love how you wrote this about the book. It sounds like this would be an excellent midday read on a rainy day. I'll definitely add it to my want to read list. Thanks for your review.

This book is not a genre I usually read so, I am going to contemplate first whether I will read it in the future or not. Thanks for your review.

I always find it fascinating when a writer can get some much materiel in a book under 100 pages, and from the sounds of your review, he has done a great job doing that with this book. A mystery set back in the 1930s sounds fun.

The author did a good job in taking the reader back in time. The characters are well developed and amusing.

I usually like investigative and psychological mysteries and not so much espionage ones. Despite the interesting story related to the missing Chinese Mask of Perpetuity, the scene at the Macau casino at the beginning of the novel didn't manage to keep me tuned in. I'm sure others will enjoy Melville's adventures, though. Thanks for your review!

George Melville is called upon to help a British Secret Services agent return the treasured Chinese artifact, "the Mask of Perpetuity." The story is faced-paced and intriguing. Great review

I think that reading a book about espionage from the perspective of George, a merely investigate officer, is much more interesting than from the point of view of a spy. However, the genre is not one I enjoy.

Seems like an interesting fast-paced mystery novel. It'll be fun to join the main character on his investigation of who stole the mask. Hopefully, I can interpret the clues given in the book and not get blindsided. Nice review.

From a sampling, this is a very interesting adventure novel concerning the British attempting to recover a stolen/missing Chinese artifact. This book is worth a second look if you are interesting in spy/adventure stories. Well done.

This book has definitely inspired me to build my vocabulary, as the author uses a variety of cultural terms and references. I enjoy the pace of this book and how it moves along quickly, such as from the airplane ride, to the hotel and dinner, to back on the plane in just a matter of paragraphs while not sacrificing detail.

I felt intrigued by the sample of this novel and after reading your review I am convinced that I need to read this book, and series fully. I am not usually one for mysteries, but from the sample I am interested enough to give it a go, especially after learning that it is a short one.
