Hello all!
I've been looking for the ultimate horror book and have failed each time. What are your favorite horror books? What do you consider to be the best horror book ever?

I know you've probably already considered it, but Stephen King is literally one of the best. I'd start with Carrie, then work your way through his collection. It's absolutely huge and could keep you busy for years.

H. P. Lovecraft is also a fantatic writer and has many horror books. Some are regular ghosts and demons, others are pshycological horrors. Hope you have found something by now though!

I would personally recommend Sticks and Stones. It is a book based around multiple murders that are happening in a certain town. It is fiction, but it is such a good book to read in your free time!!

It probably depends on what you want in a horror book. Stephen King is, of course, sooo famous and I have liked pretty much everything I have read by him. I haven't read all of his books, but I have read at least 10 or more, for whatever that is worth. Edgar Allen Poe is another well-known horror writer. His horror stories are mostly short stories, and not full-length novels. I read a book by John Saul a long, long time ago entitled The Unwanted and I liked it quite a bit. That is the only book I have read by him, I think. Another one I read was something by Dean Koontz. It was about twin boys who were not very nice and they drank Drano. He's another very well-known writer. Based on the one or two books by Koontz that I have read, he seems like a sci-fi/horror writer, sometimes with a moral if you look closely. It was a long time ago that I read those. Good luck to you in your horror-story hunt!

One I found to be pretty terrifying is called
From a Buick 8 by Stephen King. I personally loved the audio format. Any book where I find myself yelling, "no no! Don't go in there!," Is a pretty good read to me.

Stephen King is an amazing place to start especially with one of his earlier books like Carrie. The horror is woven throughout the book and takes the form of not only physical gore but also psychological torment. It is also a relatively short book that can be read in less than a week, so if the problem your running into is patience itβs an amazing pick. If you want a longer read It by Stephen King is my favourite horror book of all time. Another author I have recently started reading is Shirley Jackson. I am currently reading The Haunting of Hill House and I am in love with the imagery and her prose. So if Stephen Kings writing style isnβt your thing maybe check Jackson out.

I have always thought Stephen King was one of the best horror (and in general) authors. He has such a way with his words that it is so enjoyable to read how he flawlessly executes the storyline.

It's been mentioned already but it has to be Stephen King if you're looking for horror. Granted all of them aren't great but there are plenty of great ones there to read.
