Dog Gone by Diane Moat follows the captivating life of a dog-lover turned avenger against animal abusers.

Sam’s life changes in an instant one day when she stumbles upon the corpse of a ghastly butchered dog. She vows to avenge the death of the dog and expose the actions of other animal abusers. With the help of a former mobster, an eccentric social media enthusiast and a friend who deals with stolen items, Sam gets to work. She begins to rob the wealthy in order to raise money to fund her mission but a few surprises lie in wait for her despite her meticulous planning.

I liked that the characters in the book are well developed. Their flaws and misjudgments make them more authentic. Despite Sam’s love for Daniel, she admires Michael for his ability to understand her mission regardless of the illegal activities involved. Many times, Sam second guesses her quest. She considers using legal measures to bring the animal abusers to justice. Still, she trudges on sometimes taking risks that endanger her life. Sam’s friends are also diverse in character. Their differences in their point of view and the way they choose to live their lives add depth to the plot.

I also liked that the story is suspenseful. It contains unexpected turns that add flavor to the plot. Sam encounters many challenges along the way, some directly related to her mission while others arise in her day to day life. Through the danger, Sam’s courage and commitment to the course are revealed. She is determined to do what it takes to stamp out any form of animal cruelty and neglect. Some action scenes also contain unexpected outcomes which make the story even more gripping.

The work is also emotionally engaging which I loved. The sub-plots reveal the fears and concerns of the characters in other aspects of their lives. These parts of the story give an extensive view of the characters’ lives. One such strand is Sam’s love life. While not being directly related to the story, it reveals the turmoil within the main character as she considers sacrificing her own happiness to achieve her goal.

Dog Gone by Diane Moat is a thrilling story. However, I felt that the epilogue did not tie well with the storyline. It is professionally edited, though, and I did not identify any errors. Readers who appreciate mystery stories with a unique twist will love reading the book. Readers who are not attracted to action-packed books may not enjoy reading the story. I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

This is a bit of a different take on this genre, but I love it. Revenge probably isn't right in any case, but animal abusers should definitely be prosecuted. Love that this is so well done. Thanks!

It’s a good book. It’s more thrilling than you would think from reading the preview. I found little to no grammatical errors. I would recommend this book to a friend!
