The book Final Notice by Van Fleisher, is an interesting read. The premise of having a watch that reads your bodies’ health status then predicts within 30 days as to when you will die, is an idea that creates mixed emotions. It seems like it would be a good thing to know when you will die so you can say your goodbyes and get your affairs in order but, this book also addresses the topic of revenge and elderly Americans. This creates thought provoking ideas of political topics of the day. I give the book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars because of it’s unusual plot involving emotional issues and the fact that I couldn’t put it down, wanting to see what the conclusion would bring.

Van Fleisher wrote about both social and political issues here in America. He used fictional characters that touched home as the real individuals that shape and dictate the future of our country in this day and time. One could assume to know the author’s opinion about politics and the NRA, in which, I happen to agree with his viewpoint, so I found myself eager to read to the end. I am not sure a reader with an opposing viewpoint would be so eager to finish the book. It was so intriguing, opinions or not, it was entertaining and worth the read. There were surprises in the end which always adds to the enjoyment. It’s a book that you think about long after you have finished reading.

The story takes a simple technology idea, that isn’t too far-fetched, and uses it to explore human nature, as well as, a politically heated topic such as gun control. It is well written and edited, with no errors found. The story keeps you guessing right up to the unexpected ending. The 2 main characters and their situations are throughout the entire story but, 8 other characters who have received their final notice arise as the story is expanded. The reader may feel their opinion about gun control strengthens or their opinion my be changed, through the ways these characters react to have been given their final notice of death. It makes the reader wonder if such a technology is on the horizon.

The story also involves issues of the older generation and how the NRA is appealing to them. It was interesting to know that the NRA gives a senior discount and that people over the age of 65 have the highest rate of firearm ownership in the nation. It informs the reader that firearms in the hands of the sector of people who have a high rate if dementia, depression, and suicide could be a deadly combination, which is another current issue to contemplate.

Final Notice. is an imaginative, well-written story that keeps you entertained and enthralled throughout. Whether you agree with the politically driven issues of the story or not, it is a must read.
