Final Notice, written by Van Fleisher, is a definite page-turner. Set during the present moment, it follows the main characters Vince and Trudi Fuller, as well as Vijay Patel. There are many minor characters who have an important impact on the story, many of whom Vince and Trudi have never met.

Vince and Trudi are senior citizens, 70 and 65 years old respectively and Vijay is the owner of a company named VitalTech. Vijay has created a new health watch which can accurately predict when someone will die. The settings on the watch are for 10, 20, and 30 days. While the intention of the watch is to alert people and give them time to put their affairs in order, there are a few people who choose not to do that.

Two of the issues in the story are that the NRA has been targeting senior citizens in order to sell more guns and a number of those senior citizens who have both guns and the VitalTech watch have been killing people when they receive the notice that they will die soon. There are those with firearms and the VitalTech watch who do not do this, but they have a different character than those who had received the notice they would die soon and decide to kill others before that happens.

Fear and the threat of an unsafe environment, particularly on a personal level, can easily turn a person towards an object which promises security and safety. Even if that object can be the cause of fear in others given the right situation. While Vince and Trudi do end up purchasing a gun due to a series of safety incidents involving friends and family, readers would be confident in Vince’s character that he would not be the type to shoot people if he found out through the VitalTech watch that he would be dying soon. That is until a certain condition comes into play and then the reader's certainty of what Vince would do goes flying out the window.

I found Final Notice to be well written, researched, and a well-edited story whose characters felt real and could be anybody walking down the street. I would honestly have to say that this book has earned a spot among my favorites. The surprising developments within the story felt natural and fit in well. Without a doubt, Final Notice deserves a solid 4 out of 4 stars.
