“A home invasion wouldn’t have made much sense to the police, nor an execution-style murder.”

The Interloper by Dave Zeltserman is an action/thriller novel. The story follows the life of Dan Willis, who, being unemployed at the time finds himself working as an assassin for The Factory, a secret government organization that kills troublesome insurgents. In the few months Dan Willis has worked for The Factory he has dealt with every insurgent the organization has told him to kill without question.

Only after receiving his next order to kill Brian Schoefield does Dan Willis begin to question the role he is playing for the government organization that recruited him.

Realizing the truth behind The Factory and their reasons for killing ordinary people, Dan Willis ends up making many rebellious choices which places him in a very dangerous position with The Factory’s higher ups.

The Interloper is notably a great story, plot-wise. Dave Zeltserman does an exceptionally great job in weaving the story with a great plot with diverse, and lively characters. He presents all the exciting things that the crime genre has to offer, including government conspiracies, heists, betrayal and vengeance. Each character has his own fascinating tale which ultimately, in the future interlocks with the other view-point characters tales.

The protagonist, Dan Willis, is very likable and relatable. He remains cool and unwavering throughout the story. Nothing he does is un-expectable or goes against what he would do. He feels very real and lifelike; so do all the characters in the story.

The author’s prose is laid-back and easy to read. There is never a dull moment or an unnecessary scene due to Dave Zeltserman’s artistic and skillful use of pace and prose. The story is a very enjoyable and interesting read. There is little to nothing a reader could hate in the telling of the tale. Everything from plot development to character development, and even language use is exceptionally flawless.

I did not find anything I detested from the story. However, I did find a few grammatical errors, which leads me to conclude that the novel was professionally edited. These errors, however, did not do much to detract from the overall flow of the story.

For the mentioned reasons, I find I can rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I do not recommend this book to only one audience of readers because I believe it is a story that will be enjoyed by a diverse number of audiences.
