The Dark Web Murders: The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries Book Four is written by Brian O'Hare. The story takes its reader on a journey through the dark side, as the police conduct an ongoing investigation into the gruesome killing of a high-powered Judge. On the night of his murder, the judge was hosting a social gathering at his home. The guests included high-ranking members of society, unknown to the police; they are also members of a secret sex club whose levels of sexual depravity seem to be boundless. Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan and his team are also investigating a string of horrific deaths that seems to be connected to Judge Neeson's murder. Sergeant Denise Stewart then makes a startling discovery on the dark web, the underworld of the internet. She learns that the psychotic killer has been proudly posting detailed accounts of each of his murders. The Chief Inspector and his team constantly seem to be one step behind this clever murderer.

There is something compelling and intriguing about a mystery novel. If it’s genuinely good, it commands your attention and holds it until the very end. The Dark Web Murders falls into that category. The first critical scene in the prologue was very violent and set a precedent for the rest of the novel. The author did a good job of building and sustaining the suspense throughout the plot. The scattered clues, hinting at different characters were a subtle touch and kept the mystery interesting. I was continuously trying to figure out who the killer might be. All the angles of the story were effectively considered and this gave the reading experience a more grounded feel.

The characters were diverse, clearly described and seemed aptly suited to their roles. The introductory information at the beginning was a helpful addition; if it had not been there, the story would have been confusing with the number of diverse characters. Although there were action parts in the story, the suspense and mystery were greater. The story flowed with an even momentum which coincided with the steady development of the plot.

However, I did find that some parts of the story were a bit slow and seemed to drag; for instance, when the killer wrote about his killings and his justifications, the discussions felt drawn out and long-winded.There were a couple of errors, like misplaced commas and a typo, although this did not detract from my overall reading experience.

I found the story to be suspenseful and well-written. I gave it a rating of 4 out of 4. Readers who enjoy graphic mystery novels and crime and detective stories would appreciate this book. Considering the level of violence and sexual perversions mentioned, I would recommend this book only for mature audiences. This is not for readers who prefer more pleasant and soothing genres.

I'm not really a fan of mystery novels but it sounds like this one met the prerequisite of keeping up the suspense throughout the book! I think I'll pass but thanks for the review!
