Reading remains an experience that can enlighten one in almost any field. The Dark Web Murders written by Brian O'Hare represents not only a mystery/thriller but also an image of the world we live in today.
Follow Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan and his team, as they attempt to investigate a brutal murder. Moreover, the murderer is leaving not even an iota of prints or clues for forensics. If that is not worrisome enough, the killer has the gall to write about all his killings on the dark web. Read The Dark Web Murders to find out why a judge was murdered. Furthermore, why was the judge entertaining guests who loathed him? Will Jim and his team prevail or will the narcissistic psychopath, known as Nemein, reign down his version of justice.
The Dark Web Murders is the fourth book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone story. There are no cliffhangers at the end of the book and all is revealed.
It saddens me that this book has drawn to an inevitable end. I loved the steady cascade of events and the constant intrigue of the story. The story had an engaging plot throughout the book. Though the storyline outlines some really grotesque and gruesome events, it was not utterly graphic, that the reader would be sickened by too many details. Also, my absolute and most cherished part of the book was the killer's identity is not revealed till the appropriate end. I love a good murder mystery and this one kept me guessing till the very end. If anyone dislikes a predictable and already revealed murderer with a passion as I do, then this is the book for you. It is definitely an adult read because of vividly described violence, blood and gore.
I have quoted an excerpt from a news article at the end of the book. It is not a spoiler whatsoever and is as follows, "It becomes increasingly obvious that those who seek and gain authority in today’s amoral climate seem incapable of resisting its lure. Power corrupts, and those who gain access to the controls of society’s different strata seem to lose touch with the ancient virtues that gave our culture its value and its worth." Accurately said and no doubt therein lies food for thought. The writer seems to be writing in a way that would enlighten us all as to what demons lurk in the dark. The evil we as humans are capable of, always frightens me. This was the very first murder mystery that caused tears to run down, my face. If you do not like complex mysteries and violence, this may not be the book you seek. There are heartbreaking revelations in the book that would make anyone cry. Mayhap we need to be exposed to the gruesome atrocities happening in plain sight, to be acutely aware of our surroundings. I feel with much conviction that Brian O'Hare is telling the world something other than just an entertaining story. As the saying goes, "reality is stranger than fiction."
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for an excellent and compelling story. There was nothing I disliked about it except that the killer talked too much! Brian O'Hare includes another fan in me. I will look up all his other stories, until I have read them all!
