The Dark Web Murders contains suspense and mystery and it ignited some old memories in me. The characters embedded in it, especially from the Police department, gave depth and authenticity to it. Events of the story focus on the darkness which perverts society and the extent to which the upper class partake. It shares the lengths to which a person would go to exact revenge. As with all crime and murder sagas, a great deal of guessing occurred from start to finish, as everyone seemed suspect with hidden motives.

Chief Inspector Sheehan and his partner, Sergeant Stewart attempted a thorough approach to their investigation. They had a topsy-turvy journey, sifting through the facts, distractions and the insights that they encountered before they cracked the case. Personal conflicts of Stewart created a smaller plot as she made every effort to prove herself and her standing on the team. Hidden secrets of several characters kept the reader’s curiosity up and, I daresay, O’Hare Brian certainly kept the pages turning by holding out until the end.

The reader is made to wonder about the depth of perversity in society and all the dark on-goings in the world that elude the ordinary, innocent by-stander. The Dark Web Murders by O'Hare Brian reflects that things are always more than they seem. Yet, the question beckons as to whether we truly want to know more than the obvious. When the truth was exposed towards the end, some of the characters wished not to have discovered it.

No errors were observed in the book. I may have missed them, if any, as I got sucked into the plot right away. The part of the book I liked most was the final unfolding of the plot. Its suspense was tight till that point. I can’t find any tangible reason to dislike any portion of the book. The perversity that it throws light on is distasteful but O’Hare managed to keep most of it away from the reader. It is a reality whose existence one has to deal with eventually.

I rate this crime mystery four out of four stars because the story was absorbing. Perhaps I would have given it three and half stars if there was room for this rating. This is because I mentally compared it to some fast-paced novels I have read. Given the setting of this story, however, the pace was appropriate. There were also some inconsistencies towards the end which are worthy of note. The first is Sheehan's use of his mobile phone hours after he had smashed it. And, how he discovered Doran's secret habit before sending McBride to him at the end.

Lovers of mystery, crime and sleuthing will enjoy reading this book. The theme upon which the story lies makes it off-limits to young teens and immature minds. I fear it would scar them and put sick ideas in their heads. I do not recommend that such people read the book. It was an interesting read. I look forward to reading more from the author. I will certainly get the first book in the series for my collection and reading pleasure. Have a great read!
