Casey was waiting for her girlfriend at home when an intruder barged in. She was gruesomely assaulted and left for dead. Her girlfriend, Mara, a detective, will not allow the intruder to go unpunished. Whodunit? Who would want to kill Casey Terranova? She is loved by many and hated by none, or so she thought. Will Mara put all of the pieces of the puzzle together in time? Will she bring Casey’s attacker to justice?
I was hooked on B-Side by Janis Jones the moment that I opened the book. It was a quick and easy read with a major plot twist. To say that the conclusion was both spectacular and surprising would be an understatement. Additionally, the author was very detail-oriented. Her style of writing was nothing short of amazing. I believe this amount of detail was included on each and every page. As a result, the story flowed effortlessly and there were no loose ends by the conclusion. With all of that said, I am extremely thrilled to rate this book a 4 out of 4.
The best way to describe this book is to call it a suspenseful love story. The tale revolves around Mara and Casey’s epic romance. Their connection is one of a kind and genuine. I think it is fair to point out that this love story isn’t your typical sappy romance novel. Instead, their love was authentic and captivating. The couple had real issues but continued to choose one another through the obstacles, including the attack on Casey. Which leads us to the mystery of this story. Who attacked Casey and why? The thriller and suspense portions of this book were incredible and fascinating. I thoroughly enjoyed how the author combined the love story and suspense tale perfectly.
Additionally, as I mentioned, the author has an eye for detail. Each word transported me into the world she created. For example, Casey lives in a house with an ocean view. When the story took place in the house, I could visual the waves crashing against the beach through the floor to ceiling windows. Not only was she extremely detailed with the scenery but the characters as well. Each character had their own personality. Casey is quirky, artsy, and comfortable in her own skin. She also sees the good in everyone. For example, when Casey’s attacker was identified, she decided to give his wife a present to show there were no harsh feelings. Mara is powerful and driven with a hard exterior. Although she has an emotional wall around her feelings, she loves Casey fiercely. The one character that irritated me immensely was Larry. He is a detective that appears randomly throughout the story. His personality was so over the top and in your face yet he fits the storyline perfectly.
I would recommend B-Side by Janis Jones to suspense lovers and romance enthusiasts. I would not recommend this book to a younger audience because there are some graphic details. There is also some foul language. Additionally, I felt like this book was professionally edited. I only noted one spelling error.
